One from four – a huge puzzle for Steven Gerrard

With the signing of Jermain Defoe, Ibrox Noise discussed how Steven Gerrard has created a very nice problem to have.

Having secured a former England international up front, we discussed before how you don’t sign Jermain Defoe to leave him on the bench, and unless going two up front with Morelos (possible) it’s a fair old conundrum to have, not to mention Kyle Lafferty and Ryan Hardie.

But, if we work with the idea Gerrard will persist with one up top, we thought we’d put it to you, our beloved readers, as to which of our four strikers you’d pick for the honour.

For argument’s sake, assume this is Rangers’ strongest XI for a big match; if we played just one up front, who would you have?

  1. Laff is shit, Hardie will be out on loan again, Morelos imo is just to unrelieable with his misses and suspenions so its Defoe for me.

  2. It's taken wee grumpy a long time to win me round but he is doing more right than wrong now.never thought I would say it but he is turning into a proper player. Still young. Still learning.

  3. Morelos with Defoe at home, and away against weaker teams. The one in form up front on their own against tougher teams, unless we go three at the back.
May depend on injuries, suspensions and form

  4. Morelos all day. Defoe is a better striker but not on his own. Play two up front is the answer. Geek you are very harsh on Laff who is a very good player but just not a goalscorer. Hardie has time on his side.

  5. I would pick Defoe. Read he looked sharp and fit whilst training in Tenerife. Morelos is petulant, temperamental, and a loss cause when it comes to red cards. Very immature. Needs to be benched more and learn a lesson. Have a feeling he'll be gone soon anyway. Defoe for me.

  6. Not only has Morelos scored 20 goals already but his work outside the box in pulling centre backs around and bullying them is unparalleled. Some players can do one or the other but not both. If he can fine tune his finishing and improve his temperament he can become a tduly superb player. But why bring Defoe to Ibrox and not play him. I think it will be 2 up top.
Lafferty hasn't really had a chance but can still make a contribution if given game time. I think he has been very unlucky.

  7. Lafferty has gone off the boil. Why not sell him. Any man that can bang goals in consistently at Hearts and then come to Rangers and go on a goal-drought (injury aside) is not an asset, but a liability. He's had his chance and fluffed it. Two up front, it has to be. Alfie will be gone in the summer, anyhow.
