“Nothing less than £15M” – all the latest ins and outs at Ibrox

With Kilmarnock’s Jordan Jones and Dundee’s Glen Kamara at Ibrox for talks today, it’s evident January’s transfer window is hotting up on yet another whirlwind day in Govan.

Time for your latest Ibrox Noise update on the wheeling and dealing going on in Glasgow’s south side:

Steven Davis remains up in the air. Nothing has been forthcoming about progress in this deal, despite claims the player reportedly took a medical at Auchenhowie (seemingly false), and while it was reported that terms had been agreed, that was a day or two ago and it’s gone relatively quiet. We still expect this one to get over the line, and the latest is he’ll arrive midweek to clinch the deal. We assume.

Jermain Defoe is an interesting one. It remains an 18-month loan deal, but bizarrely there’s a return clause for both this coming summer and the following window. Eddie Howe clearly isn’t certain Dominic Solanke is going to work out, and wants the backup fallback crutch of Defoe to rely on if he should need him. Nothing has been sorted yet and it continues in discussions.

Dundee’s Glen Kamara arrived at Ibrox today to discuss a deal – free to talk to other clubs, Kamara, a 23-year old Finnish international midfielder, is out of contract in the summer so it’s either a low-price permanent signing or a pre-contract. Dundee fans aren’t best pleased with the engine room man, accusing him of downing tools recently. It does happen, and when it’s your player it happens with, it’s extremely disheartening and not terribly professional.

Meanwhile Rangers are also set to finally seal Jordan Jones – the NI international would take Rangers’ roster up to four (we’d have way more players starting for Ulster than Scotland), and like Kamara he could be permanent now or a pre-contract. Amusing to see Killie fans suddenly accusing him of having no end product, something we don’t recall them saying before he was linked with Rangers. He too is in Govan today for a chat.

Some speculation about Alfredo Morelos; his departure been suggested as a reason we are working hard to get Defoe, but the latest is claims Gerrard has been assured we will not sell. We don’t believe it, frankly – if a good bid comes in, Morelos will leave, in our opinion. But it can’t harm to have Defoe (assuming he can regain his old form) and Lafferty (likewise!) in there as two other options.

Defence-wise is interesting. Not much happening at the back but we are wondering about Forest and Joe Worrall. City Ground boss Aitor Karanka was looking at bringing the 21-year old back south after the injury to Michael Dawson, but it’s gone quiet and reports are the paperwork favours Rangers on this. Following his outstanding display against Celtic, Worrall’s previous unpopularity has significantly faded and he’s probably one fans and manager alike now want to hold onto.

Ryan Kent also wants to remain at Ibrox and make it permanent, but that will cost money and we’ve not heard of any negotiations yet. We also wonder if the cost is too high hence the imminent acquisition of Jordan Jones. If Kent was to sustain his Old Firm form, he would be a lethal player for Rangers. But they’re far from cheap and Jones will much less expensive.

Ross McCrorie emerged recently as interesting Swansea, but if the fans’ response to this is anything to go by, he’s one the support critically wants to hold onto. Replies suggested nothing less than £15M would be acceptable for a player of his age and potential. We proposed a minimum of £3M and do suspect anything above that will be considered. If bid.

Thing is, despite all the crazy news of the past week or so, Jamie Barjonas’ return is literally the only actual thing that’s materialised yet.

The window is young.

  1. Kamara and Jones now confirmed. Coming in the summer, see no reason to spend money getting them in now.
A few players will be leaving in the summer if they want to play football next year

  2. Going in the right direction didn't think we could win the league two months ago now believe its possible

  3. To Leave the club :

    Foderingham
    Tavernier
    Flanagan
    Worrall – (end of Loan)
    Coulibaly – "" ""
    Rossiter
    Grezda(On Loan)
    Pena
    Holt
    Dodoo
    Herrera

  4. I’m not convinced by The latest two signings. Jones and Kamara are average at best. Happy with Defoe and Davis in the short term but as long as it doesn’t mean selling our younger players to pay for it. This would be very short minded and very dangerous financially.

  5. Just hope defoe is here to help morelos and not replace him. Been crying out for backup all season, one injury and we are screwed up front as lafferty has been bang average since he came back
