What an incredible day of transfer activity it’s been at Ibrox, the likes of which we’ve…seen last summer, quite honestly. Following the hell of the lower leagues including the embargo, the return of crazy days like these are beyond welcome and the pure joy of being a Bear.
Let Ibrox Noise round up the action over the past 12-36 hours in a nutshell:
Randomly, we’ll start with Carlos Pena. The playmaker is said to be interesting a clutch of teams in Turkey, for some reason, with their media running the story. We’ve not heard any progress on this one yet but he’s evidently not part of Steven Gerrard’s plans.
Then we have Greg Docherty – the midfielder will likely not be coming back this month after Shrewsbury boss Sam Ricketts confirmed Rangers’ management have been in touch with him and did not suggest any likelihood of bringing him home. So young Docherty must wait his turn it seems.
However, Jamie Barjonas did come back – his loan at Bury is over and the 19-year old either joins Rangers’ Development squad or tries to fight his way into the seniors. He may also go back out on loan to another club. We can’t see him being ready enough to stake a match day squad place but we’ll see.
Next is Steven Davis – he’s been at Auchenhowie for the medical and will put pen to paper on a deal to take him home to Rangers permanently. We don’t yet know the length, but 18 months seems likely, and the midfielder is reportedly taking an 80% pay cut.
Then of course we have Jermain Defoe – he will be joining Rangers’ training camp in Tenerife and the club on a loan deal for 18 months. It’s a curious contract but Rangers will be getting a top-level EPL player for free. Can’t complain about that.
Next up was some silly nonsense about Scott Allan – we’ve been hearing this from various sources, that the first-ever transfer directly between Rangers and Celtic was going to happen in the form of the ex-Hibs playmaker, and while we’d love to dismiss this as idiotic, we will always remember the Joey Barton Fallacy of ‘even the craziest Rangers transfer stories can turn out to be true’. So we’ll keep our eye out for that one!
And for now, last but not least Charlie Adam – he’s had the come and get me pleas out with a vengeance the past day or so, and while we can’t see Gerrard taking him up on his offer, it’s not impossible.
We’ve probably missed some….
