A major deadline day problem for Gerrard ‘in bulk’….

After all the hype over the past two or three months, the closer we get to the midnight deadline, the more it appears the only fringe player to go out on loan this window’s end will be Jordan Rossiter, with an imminent transfer to League Two Bury on the cards.

Lee Wallace and Wes Foderingham appear to have seen any possible moves fall through, Carlos Pena remains AWOL and no one has a clue what is happening with him, and Eduardo Herrera is barely even registered as a Rangers player any more albeit is currently on loan in Mexico with Necaxa.

Meanwhile Steven Gerrard has an astonishing 15 players out on loan already, set to be 16 with Rossiter’s departure.

It all adds up, honestly, to a pretty messy state compared, for example, with the mere two that Celtic have out similarly.

The squad Rangers have amounts to, in total, 44 players – 16 out on loan, one unknown, and 27 squad members of varying levels of fitness.

On the 31st of May every one of these loan players will be back, meaning, except in the few cases of expired deals, Rangers will have around 40+ squad members – the most bulked up and clogged Rangers group we can remember.

We really hope we can get some more outgoings done over today, because Rangers are quite simply too bloated in current form.

Too many players, too many players.

  1. Too much money, too much money. Not SGs fault. He inherited a pile of crap. The whole system is wrong. But I think we can even win league with this mob. But next season will be Stevies big challenge. If dross goes in May we can spend better.

    • Your right that its not all Stevie's fault even if a lot of his signings have been pretty average – much of the blame lies with Pedro and the bread man before him; but at the same time we cannot keep throwing good money after bad, the only place that will lead us to is oblivion. Our wage bill must be getting close to ceptic's at this point, which is a concern as our income is still nowhere near theirs. Tbh I fully expected at least one departure(most likely Morelos) this month to at least try to balance the books a bit. But clearly that is not a priority for the board.

  2. We are carrying too many passengers, coulibaly, flanagan, rossiter, worrall could come into that category as well, and I hate to say it because I rated him and that is mcauley who just does not look comfortable whoever he is paired with,we also have Wallace why not just let the guy go to another club at least he has been a great servant, the reason he is not getting a game must be coming from above.

  3. The number of players out on loan is hardly an issue now , we have got them out of the way and at least part of their wages paid to save money .Unfortunately their contracts are so good no-one will match them to sign the players full time .Some will come back ( Docherty, Rossiter , Hardie , Rudden etc ) others will be released as their contracts are up ( Hodson , Beerman ) and hopefuly the likes of Holt and Alnwick have done enough to be kept by their loan clubs . Wallace will go , Herreras is an 18 month loan so he will not be back ,Pena will be freed/sacked ,call it what you want and guys like McAuley ,Davis, Worrall , Coulibaly and Kent are not ours unless we want them .It will take more then 2 windows to organise the squad the way we want it , to progress the club .
