Why a dramatic policy change at Ibrox must happen before January

It’s time to say enough is enough. There comes a point where we have to concede it isn’t working, and now three years back in the Premiership, this is the point.

Name a single player Rangers have taken on loan from another team who’s actually worked out since 2016.

The closest two we’ve come up with are Jamie Murphy, but he was supposed to be a permanent signing anyway and ended up as a loan trial, and Declan John, who actually did work out truly.

Every single other example has been a complete failure and frankly we’re getting fed up of all the junk players we’re taking on who simply don’t cut it and aren’t ours.

We’ve become a test bed for Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham kids who can’t cut it at their clubs and whose managers want seen in the real world. We send Greg Docherty and Jason Holt to Shrewsbury and Fleetwood respectively? Well, that is exactly what Liverpool are using us for, and it stops now.

For us to take a piece of junk like Joe Worrall, a useless never was like Coulibaly and all the rest of them on only for them to underwhelm like Hyndman, Toral, Ball, Zelalem, Oduwa and Vuckic before them has to stop.

We’ve had enough.

We hate seeing our first team filled with other teams’ players. It’s no good.

It’s fine when it’s a truly excellent player, and it works out so well we sign the guy permanently. But that is rare as buttons and all it does otherwise is waste our time, our resources, and cost a Rangers player a place.

Joe Worrall, Lassana Coulibaly, Umar Sadiq, and Ovie Ejaria have been, to varying degrees, a waste of time. Frankly Ryan Kent, a sensational few matches aside, has been complete rubbish as well.

And it’s cost us months of using our own players – Katic, Grezda, Middleton, Rossiter and a tonne of others have had to sit on the bench while a reject from Nottingham Forest played ahead of them.

Call us overly angry if you like, but we’re completely fed up of being used as a lab for developing other clubs’ players.

We’re not naïve. We understand the loan market. That Rangers getting top quality players isn’t cheap or easy, and there’s a chance we could hit on a gem from a Liverpool kid or an Arsenal Academy graduate.

But it’s a lottery – and one we mostly lose.

Time to bite the bullet and stop borrowing other teams’ unwanted players.

  1. "Academy graduate" These are the terms we use now for somebody kicking a leather ball around a grass field, pure dead brilliant!

  2. Ball done well… we all wanted him and didn’t happen. And now he’s with Aberdeen and sadly the other week had a good game

  3. You are overly angry. Ryan Kent a failure? You were begging for him to be signed permanently only a few weeks ago. Of course it’s a risk. But what top class player wants to come in play in Scotland? Look at Celtic last night. Totally outclassed despite all the money they have had. We have been unlucky with injuries and dreadful refs( see disallowed Moscow goal). We can’t afford huge salaries for bench warmers. If Jack, Doranns,Arfield, Croatian left back had all been fit we would have still have been in Europe and top of league. Steve must be trusted.

    • We said that after the win over Hearts actually. 8th October. Quite a stretch to say over two months ago is a 'few weeks'? But we take an aspect of your point. We did say that regardless of when, but it's one possible of five players. That's just not good enough.

  4. 100% agree! We have a few decent games out of coulibaly but you just need to ask yourself if he's that good then why is his parent club happy to send him on loan? Only loans we should get is truly brilliant prospects that are certain to be 1st team players for their parent club or the loan to buy type like Davis and Murphy.

  5. Here here time we started playing on youth players ie dallas would save club thousands development of our own players should have been done 4+5 years ago

  6. 100% agree. How will we ever know how good our youngsters are if we keep playing all the loan dross. Surely worrall has to be sent back. He has no interest in being here and we have no interest in him being here either

  7. 1st season for Gérard we need to give it time, we can't afford new big money players so we do need loan players but good loan players don't want to come to our Diddy league , the problem we have is that stevie keeps changing the team every game We need a main stay 7 or 8 players to start every game bar injuries. Second place for stevie first year is decent.

    • 2nd place for us you and one more title closer for the tramps to get 10. There is no more time for us to waste with the beggers they must be stopped this season. No title this season for us = no job here for Stevie G it's either this season or never for our glorious club.

  8. Be careful what you wish for. If we had bought those players instead of taking them on loan, would you really be happier? Thought not.
I agree we should try to develop our own youth instead of someone else's, but I think Kent has been good, we were all raving about Coulibaly after a few games, these things happen.
If we had not brought 5 loans in, we would have had to buy players. We didn't have the cash. Would you have been happy if we brought in kids and they failed?
I also thought Hyndman was decent for us.

So sorry but I can't agree

    • You’ve missed the point. Those players came to us BECAUSE they were loans. We’d never have bought them. The loan and sale market are totally different.

    • I don't miss the point. My point is that we needed more bodies, it has been noted by better peple than me that our squad is light or threadbare depending on opinion. It would have been a lot more threadbare without those 5. Sadiq didn't work out, I agree. But who else could we have got and what would they have cost. I believe we ended up with Sadiq and Lafferty because they couldn't get anyone else. I think it is too soon for Dallas, maybe next season. But with him and Hardie still improving, I would be happy with another striker coming on loan.
Worral hasn't worked, but when he came we only had 2 CBs, McAuley came after the window because we need 4. So, without loans we would have been looking at buying 2 more CBs, or 1 if we were sure of McAuley.
Coulibaly and Ejaria, well we all thought Coulibaly was great at first, so nobody was complaining then. Ejaria hasn't impressed anyone, but if we hadn't had those two, we would have had to buy. They were brought in because rightly or wrongly, SG didn't have faith in the midfielders at the club.

So, in conclusion, we would still have had to buy more players. If not them, then others. We didn't have the money. This was the solution. Not perfect, but it has given SG time to assess, release those not delivering and decide where he has to improve

    • As I said before flood the team with the best loaned players we can afford and get stop 10 and then start from scratch again. All that matters to me is to put a stop to 10 double quick and if a big pile of the best loaned players is the answer let's go for it. WATP

    • Scud, I understand your idea, but it not that easy, or everybody would do it. If we get the best loan players we can afford why can't Celtic, who have three times as much money as us, go and loan players who are better? That would guarantee them 10iar.

Because its not that easy. Ask Ejaria. Loan players are a short term solution to a lack of cash, or to a lack of a suitable target in one, maybe even two positions. You cannot build the core of a team around loan players. They can make things worse if you have to guarantee them playing time and they are not up to it.

  9. Your right all these loan players are dross worral would not play in pub team stick to same defenders we bought u can't change team every week

  10. Been saying this for years, if we are to have loans then they should fall into two catergories. 1st team players who cant get regular minutes at elite clubs (Moses, Cahill,Orgi, etc) or we become a finishing school for youngsters ready for mins (RLC, Abrahams,Solanke) basically we cant just keep grabbing development squad level players and expect them to jump up to europa league level, its madness.

  11. No regular first team, loan players with no passion or heart, 50,000 fans screaming at them bottle crashing all over the park and kmow one looking for the ball. Concerning considering next few weeks there are good points up for grabs.
The celtic game is becoming a concern.

  12. We signed loan players out of necessity because we needed to replace a whole team and couldn't afford to buy them all. Now we have an improved squad our signing policy should change. If we spend £10m on players next season it should be on 2 or 3 players. We should try to add a couple of quality Bodmsns and promote 1 or 2 youths. Finally add no more than 2 loan players and hope that one day we hit the jackpot.

    • Exactly my point Rob. We needed quantity last summer, which we couldn't afford so we used loans. Next summer, spend same money on fewer players, get more quality.
Dallas, Hardia and Rudden are all developing well. I would be tempted to get a striker such as Solanke on loan until the summer to then see if any of them can make it. Imagine if we had the three of them and Shankland all on fire, it would give Gerrard options and he could afford to cash in on Morelos.
I would also like us to sign Halkett on a pre-contract in January. Out of contract, ex Rangers and a Rangers fan playing in the 3rd best defence in the league so knows what its all about. Cheap, quality addition.
Don't think Jordan Jones is as good as the players we have so would pass on him. Spurs and England U-19 LB sounds good on a pre-contract too, couple of deals like that mean we can save money for where we need to spend it.
But I have faith that SG and MA can find players to plug the CAM and CF gaps.

    • Ah stealing someone else idea there mate. I read last week in the evening times about Morelos getting punted and Shankland replacing him now your running with it. Hope your not taking the credit for this as it belongs to somebody else lol.

    • Shankland has been quoted for some time now by a variety of sources and I wasn't first.
Some people have been after selling Morelos for a year now, although I am not one.
I am not actually suggesting it now, just pointing out that if Dallas, Hardie, Rudden and now Mebude all come good then we could afdford to cash in on Morelos at some point in the future. lol

  13. If you aren't here for the long haul, go now. Players who want to stay and fight no matter what, all welcome. WATP
