The day which changed everything

The day which changed everything

There’s no question today has seen a shift in Scottish football. All the build up in this one was how Celtic would coast to an easy win, despite their form, with only a few sites, such as your Ibrox Noise, discussing how Rangers could win and how history suggested it was in our favour.

90 minutes later and a stunning performance, easily the best Rangers performance since beating Celtic last time at Ibrox in 2012, suggests so much humble pie is being eaten currently and we are extremely unlikely to see too many undercover Celtic fans swarming around the site today.

There are an entire generation of supporters for whom this is a completely new experience – who have never truly, in their adult lives, or in their living memory, experienced Rangers beating Celtic in the league. Or in 90 minutes.

This performance showed the Rangers of old, the Rangers we expect, and despite what certain commentators claim, no, Celtic were not poor – Rangers just absolutely nailed them from the first minute.

Sure, the early signs weren’t promising – three gilt-edge chances came and went and it appeared to be the same old wasteful story.

But, fortune of a slight flick aside, Ryan Jack’s winning goal was just reward for an epic afternoon of colossal performances which showed this Rangers team can rise when it has to, can produce when it must, and can honour the shirt.

This was exactly what older Bears expect of Rangers – not every Old Firm, of course – we can’t win them all – but a composed, angry, powerful, clinical and passionate display with everything left on the pitch.

If Rangers can keep this up, the title can be won.

What a huge afternoon.

  1. Every Rangers player rated 10/10…. and Craig Gordon as well.
Jack, McCrorie and Arfield were immense. Central midfield is where we have failed in the past but we got it right today.
Questioned Gerrards selection of Halliday and Kent but what a performance from both. Can't belive we got 90 minutes out of Kent.
Today was 100% about the fans.
The questions and critics I've been reading about Gerrard on this site recently have been completely undeserved.
    Well done to all

  2. brilliant performance from start to finish thoroughly deserved it. wanted it far more than them, outplayed them, out fought them. if we'd been more clinical it could have been alot more

  3. 100% deserved win. Should have been more goals but a great strike from Jack assisted by Kent and Brown seals the win. Really proud of the players and the way Arfield gubbed Brown at the drop ball. Makes me laugh everytime i look at it. Its been a long time coming so thank you to the players and the manager. Big high for the next two weeks.

  4. simply the best. waited for years for that result & performance, thanks to evey one of them to a man i can enjoy the new year with a smile and cheers to all fellow bears as we celebrate the bells wth a wry smile @ last.

  5. Still think its too early to be claiming we can win the title however, what a performance. Credit to everyone involved today. Gerrard got the rise out of his players today that he expects every game. That winning mentality, that you called into question just the other day, was shown throught the game in every member of the squad. If they can deliver future performances with as much dogged determination then we'll certainly push that lot all the way. Halliday for me was exceptional, as he has been most of the season in my eyes despite my major reservations on him from previous seasons and today could have ended up a cricket score had Gordon not had arguably one of his best games in a celtic shirt. Proper No Surrender attitude from everyone. 6years of hurt is over. WATP x

  6. Very very positive about the display today. I’m not the churlish type but I really do want the goal credited to Brown – I also trust we have helped him to decide that his future now lies in the Australian Sheila League.

  7. Great performance & a well deserved win. Let's now see all those who were crying after the last game now claiming that this team is good enough to win the league. It isn't at the moment, but IF a couple of good, strong first teamers can be signed in Jan there is an outside chance of 55.

  8. what a day! we beat them, hearts beat wee celik, scumdee utd beat, and stevie g's favourites win, need tae check ma 6 numbers aff. lol?
