Steven Gerrard must overule major alleged board decision

If one thing has become even more glaringly obvious in Borna Barisic’s continuing absence, it’s the increasing inadequacy of Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday as deputies, and Steven Gerrard’s embarrassing excuses about their superiority to the one decent LB wasting away in the development squad.

The Lee Wallace Elephant in the Room saga is now starting to grate and hurt this team – while we know Halliday tries his honest best, it is also abundantly noticeable that Flanagan is absolutely horrendous as a left back now, and simply can’t cut it.

He began life at Ibrox looking quite decent in that slot, but it’s derailed badly, and now it’s a pathetic toss up between an attacking midfielder and a right back as to who gets the nod to take their turn this match.

Meanwhile a former Scotland international finds himself sitting idly by and unable to contribute to the team.

We’re not saying Wallace is Arthur Numan, but he’s a damn sight better than the only two options Gerrard appears to consider valid.

We hark once again back to the notion that his hands are behind his back, and this is a boardroom political decision and not a football one, because there is no way a man who’s ‘forgotten more about football than you’ll ever know’ truly believes either Flanagan or Halliday do that job better than Lee Wallace.

There have been ‘theories’ that Flanagan is picked there out of favouritism and a notion he and Gerrard are mates. Quite possible, because on form he absolutely doesn’t merit a place on the bench right now never mind in the team.

But this is all academic and conjecture – we need our best players, and Wallace’s continued forced limbo at Ibrox has become a complete eyesore.

  1. What's the harm in throwing big Lee in the next few games, we have nothing to lose, we will continue to drop points if fud Flanagan or wage thief Halliday are given the nod first, Tav most be sold or dropped, another useless tosser that thinks he's the new Johnny Hubbard

    1. Why would Tav think he`s a left winger ? The guy is our most creative player and seems to be the only guy who doesn`t get rested because of it .We seem scared to play without him and he`s suffering a bit because of it .We`re playing the bottom team this week but I bet we don`t risk resting him before the Rapid game.

  2. Wallace is the Best LB at the Club!! ...and is more than good enough to Challenge Borna for the Jersey when Borna finds his feet again.

    Absolute Disgrace by the Board!
    Give Murty his P45!

  3. Agree. The LB postition is the target for attacks by other teams. It also affects the balance of our attacks. Middleton has been left with little support. We need a pairing that overlap , we all know wallace can do that.

  5. Agreed. It's ridiculous that Wallace is being overlooked for a RB and an attacking midfielder for the LB position. I said before if Gerrard really thinks they are better options then I'm seriously worried about his judgement on players. Every week we see journalists ask him shit pointless questions..why don't they ask 1 - do you genuinely think Flanagan and Halliday are better at LB than Wallace because none of the fans agree. 2. Why is Halliday never played in midfield? Especially when no one else dares make a forward pass? 3. Why play 2 defensive midfielders at "fortress Ibrox" when we all know the opposition are going to sit back and defend?? 4. Ejaria? Why? 5.when can we get rid of him?

  6. Things must be bad if were looking to wallace as a savour. He has never been good enough and is posted missing in every old firm game hes played in. When did he become this great defender? Loyal through a torrid time but he isnt rangers class. Barasic will improve with time and a run of games Wallace was a squad player come captain as the rest were hopeless.

  7. I would have Wallace at LB any day of the week ahead Stevie G mate and Halliday. Big Lee has been done wrong hear and hung out to dry. As I said previously then if it's a board thing him not playing I would give 2 fingers to the board and say well I'm here and I will sit out the remainder of my contract not playing as 2 can play at that game.

  8. Listen too yous all. If wee had beat Aberdeen nobody would be saying a bad word atall. Give yourselfs a good shake. I agree Wallace needs a shit but enough with putting the rest of the team down. Flannagan isn't claiming to be a left back neither is hallidy. People have off games can't play 100 % every game with all the games we've played recently. WATP NS

    1. Disco Dave calm down before you have a heart attack mate we are only voicing our opinion that we would like to see LW at left back that's all.

  9. I feel for Lee Walace that man stood firm with the fans to the detriment of his International future
How must he feel when he sees Players who left being feted like heroes now
and players simply not good enough to wear the jersey playing ahead of him
Upsets me that he is not involved more
Espescially as he has proved himself as both a Ger and a winner with Trophies under his belt
Evert time i see Haliday and Erajia Playing i know we will never win a Trophy
what happened to we don't do walking away well fans certainly walked away from him
I,ll continue to shout WE MUST NOT FORGET PEOPLE WHO LET US DOWN
and Lee Wallace is CERTAINLY NOT IN THAT BRACKET
    Keep fighting Lee

  10. Fed up of people taking pops at Flanagan, when he's continually played out of his rightful position.

  11. People out of position not just our team but others as well Scotland all the way down it's like phoning for a plumber and getting a joiner that's it in a nutshell two different positions 2 different jobs I rest my case.
