A picture speaks a thousand words – dismal at Dens

The rather vacant and grim expressions here on 80 minutes sum up the problems from the touchline. True, the team simply didn’t deliver on any single front, but equally while they made three substitutions, Gerrard and McAllister appeared to have zero idea how to change things to any effect.

They tried swapping Grezda and Candeias a few times, and altering the formation, but nothing worked against a resistant Dundee who had a sterling afternoon keeping Rangers out.

Not that there was much to keep out, depressingly.

Gerrard continues to learn on the job, but the tactics and players have been horrendously sub-par the past two fixtures.

And it sure as **** doesn’t get any easier on Thursday aboard the flight to Vienna.

  1. Just watched the game again and I'd like to know why has Gerrard swithched Goldson over to the left when he's played nearly every game on the right,as for that fucking donkey worral he runs to the centre circle then passes it sideways, why not drive it into their half and pass it forward ??,or drive on and take a fucking shot ??,i would also like to know why he needs to change the team every fucking game ???,don't think he's played the same team twice all season, how are we supposed to get any continuity ???,bring back big Nikola and get that useless carrot munching cunt back to forrest,10 million my arse…No Surrender…

  2. I just can't believe this time last week I was as high as a kite today totally down on the dumps need a result on Thursday to cheer me up again. That could be the start of getting things back on track.

  3. IN your article says that Gerrard and McAllister had zero idea of how to change things. Then conceded that they made 3 substitutions, changed formation, and swapped wingers. What else do you suggest?
Forget Thursday. I believe we have reached the end of the road there. We are not going to win in Vienna and I believed that even before the last 2 games. No shame in that, unlike today.

    • Perhaps we excluded the explicit words ‘to effect’ from the analysis. We’d assumed most readers would have realised what we meant?

  4. For the first time in a while, I agree with IB! Worryingly, I really believe that Gérard was at a lose re how to change things, once the game was underway. Frankly, the damage was done before kick-off. 6 changes was simply too much. Yes Morelos and Arfield's stupidity robbed him of his two (only two) creative players but changing the defence AGAIN was frankly unnecessary: especially playing Goldston on the left. Rossiter and Kent, coming back from longish absences, should not have started but been introduced in the second half, if the games was going our way. I really believed we could have played for another hour and not scored. One shot on target against a team with 10 men, for over an HOUR, is not acceptable!

  5. Gerrard kinda answered his own question about his inability to sort things out when he spoke of players had better not be chapping his door as he now has ammunition to show them why they aren't in the team( he doesn't know that after 6 months, 20 odd games and 6 days a week on a training park??)

Either A – he is given players chances to be Mr nice guy or B – He doesn't have a clue after 6 months what his best team is. Both ways are coming at a huge expense to out club and our chances!

Kinda obvious right enough when you see Goldson all off a sudden appear no the left side of defence after spending all season on the right side..too Accomodate Worral? who knows but it was a blunder by the manager that cost us big time!

I'm assuming he wasn't talking about his biggest underachievers chapping his door ie the worst captain the club has ever had in Tav? I'm assuming these guys will be immune to Gerrards wrath as people like Tav and Candieas( senior players, captain of our club )seem to play week in week out even though they more often than not let the team down..

Until Gerrard strips Tav of captaincy and/or drops him from the squad I will refuse to take him seriously as someone who has the ability to bring silverware to this club!

As said too many times before – His first 6 months have been more Mark Warburton than Walter Smith and by the way he speaks, his next 6 will be more of the same…

Steve Clarke albeit his poor result against Celtic just past has shown what you get from having a solid reliable team you don't tinker with. He's had better results against Celtic than any other team in the country including us and that's after losing his best players and having a budget of £0! Suppose thats the difference with a youth coach and a guy who's been assistant/caretaker or manager at Newcastle, Chelsea, Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Brom and Reading..

If he had over £10m for transfers, the countries best training facilities, access to the best coaches and scouts in the country he would already be on his way to taking the title off Celtic…That I would bet my house on! He certainly wouldn't be putting a Rangers team out that have no heart or passion for the club!

    • Ah okay Olly/C – Right you are. What about their results on the road? Did they take their pitch with them?

Kilmarnock are getting results because they have one of the most experienced managers/coaches in the UK at the helm, not because they have a plastic pitch. Clarke would get results on a gravel pitch because he knows how to set a team out and he knows how to get the best out of what he has…

  6. The side passing has started again. The fear and lack of bravery, too. We're all pig-sick. of their inconsistency and empty-jersey-itus. What can be done? What was it the UB said, last season? "No pride, nowhere to hide." SG needs to make them suffer in training, this morning.

  7. Said it before and I say it again, you cannot keep changing players in defence especially the centre backs, when was the last time we played the same two in consecutive games,we stated the season with the same two players and were solid at the back, now we cannot get through a game without losing a goal.

  8. Pish against The Sheep
    Pish against Dundee
…We Play like that in Vienna, We are gonna get Slayed

    Its not F****** Good Enough

    • Put your optimism away Stevo. We might well play much better and still lose. It's just a game too far for us in Europe but it's still a great achievement to be anywhere near this level of competition in Europe.
