“We eat our words” – did we get Rangers star wrong?

 Article by: Kirsty

We here at Ibrox Noise have been extremely critical of Morelos, no one more than myself. His lack of being able to bury the ball in the net when the chance was so clear was frustrating beyond words.  His short fuse was also leaving him open to all sorts of criticism and he was playing into the hands of those who played on it. At one point I was convinced we should sell him. Get him out the door and take whatever we could get for him; ‘20p and a packet of Wotsits’ I maintained was a good deal.

But now, good readers, I eat my words. While he’s still not perfect, I am beginning to appreciate young Morelos. His performance and impact yesterday said a lot about the lad. We saw Kyle Lafferty starting and thought fair enough. We have a pretty full schedule just now and even we understand changing it up to keep the legs fresh and minds sharp.

The Northern Irish international left a lot to be desired. Now this isn’t a piece on criticising Lafferty (he has enough going on off of the field and we’ll discuss him in another article), it’s about Morelos. He’s managing to keep his head as cool as he possibly can. Albeit that booking. He still managed to hit the net for himself and gave a fine assist to Scott Arfield.

The team freshened up when he came on. They fought together and dug together as a team. Not something I hugely noticed when Morelos was on the bench.

I still maintain that he can do better overall but reckon it’s about time ourselves and his critics cut him a whole lot more slack.

  1. Yes, Alfredo is the best player in the league and if dembele is worth what was reported, Alfredo is worth at least another 10m on top of that. He's absolutely class. I also would like to give a mention to Ryan Jack, another who has been unfairly maligned throughout our support. He's a glorious player who will lead us to the title this year or next.

  2. That booking was ridiculous. The referee hauled over after he'd been shoved after his foul on the Livi lad. Morelos was trying to keep out of afters walked off and got booked for dissent. Livi lad walks away scot free…shocking maybe old Gough has a point, refs need to protect Morelos a bit more as he is targeted by teams, in another walk of life that would be deemed as bullying. Good article glad to see So Buffalo get some praise, he's stuck it out and tries so hard every game. Maybe too hard sometimes. 2 pts and counting, league title might actually be a possibility.

    • The booking was DELIBERATE on Morelos' part. He had plenty of chance not to get booked but deliberately walked away from the ref and flapped his arms about to get the booking he wanted so that he misses the Dundee game. If he had got booked in any other upcoming game he would miss a game against HIVS, Sheepshaggers or Septic. Clever play by Morelos and the ref either fell for it or couldn't see any way out of booking him.

  3. Just wonder what his value will be in the January window and who will be interested, l myself would put £20M on The Buffalo

  4. don't be to hard on yourself, there was plenty erses like you who didn't rate Morelos – MOTM yesterday and only on for 25 minutes

  5. Drbroon, not much i can add to your post pal,as i agree with you wholeheartedly,
regarding both alfredo morelos & ryan jack! Both would ALWAYS be in my starting 11 for rangers.

    • Agreed. McGregor, Jack & Morelos the three definite starters. Tavernier and Candeias nearly so. Perm any 6 from 20 for the remainder.

  6. This is why women shouldn't talk football. Sorry if I'm a sexist dinosaur but there it is.Netball is a good sport I hear.

  7. The booking??? A sublime piece of skill in itself… No longer living on the knife edge of being suspended for the old firm game, I wondered at the time what he was up to but now it makes perfect sense, who cares if he is suspended against Dundee :)))))

  8. Morelos has been, is and will be the first name on my team sheet every week. He is getting better and better and has learned to calm himself down. Don't be fooled by the little cameo yesterday where he DELIBERATELY got himself booked. That was evidence of how much smarter he's becoming. Not for sale at ANY price despite what Stevie G says.

  9. I have been on here many times before saying the same thing, people on here you included are far to quick slagging off players before they have time to settle, different language culture etc, some players take longer than others, the base of a team is there with mgreggor/mcauley/jack/arfield/morelos who are all top drawer, with some others who can improve candeias/ barisic/katic and young middleton who's done more in a couple of games than kent who's got pace but no end product, and there is also grezda , but I will wait until grezda gets a run of games the same as kent got before I start commenting if he's any good ,the rest of the squad are average,if it was up to me I would sell Tavernier put Flanagan at right back barisic on the left and make mcauley captain.

  10. Main problem with Morelos is how the hell are we going to replace him? No matter what money we get, it may not be enough. Unless we are desperate for funds he should not be for sale at any price. I suspect that if bids get above £20M, he will go. Some of your regulars think we are skint and King is robbing us blind. If Buffalo goes for under £8M, I would probably agree with them.
I also agree w DrBroon and others re Jack. Shagger, Jack, Buffalo and probably Candeias are starters. Tav too, although with Flanagan as backup, I would be tempted to let Tav go for £8M+ to generate some funds or pay down some debt.
We have an embarrasing strength in midfield which will need winnowed out to make space for youth, but that is probably for summer. eg, Jack, Coulibaly, Halliday and Rossiter for one DM jersey is too many, so unless Coulibaly returns to walking on water I would let him go in the summer and if Rossiter is fit that should do us. Just as congested in CM/AM with Ejaria, Dorrans, Murphy and Arfield as well as youth. With possibly Grezda/Morelos as 2nd striker (assuming we find another decent striker to relegate Lafferty to 3rd choice) we have plenty attacking options.
This does not include no less than 4 quality wingers. Kent is another who may be able to move inside as well as cover RW.
All I want for Christmas or rather New Year is Halkett on a pre contract and Solanke on a loan

Wow!! Can anyone still remember when we had the strength of Rab Kiernan to depend on? How times have changed
    RTID

  11. Morelos is again showing that he is F****** Dynamite

And if he keeps working/Scoring the way he is …offers of £10m+ wont be far from the ibrox door
