The nearly man of Ibrox; heartbreak for potential Rangers star

The Graham Dorrans debacle continues on unabashed as just when the ex-Scotland midfielder seemed to have maybe, just maybe gotten over his injury nightmare, the playmaker suffers a setback in training and is back on the treatment table to consult with a surgeon.

Just when Ibrox Noise, like the rest of the support, were aching to see him in action following his marvellous cameo in Spain and decent outing against St Johnstone, the 31-year old has yet another injury complaint and the prognosis is unclear.

It’s maddening, infuriating, and while we gave up on Jordan Rossiter, at least he had age on his side, and a body which was still very much at its peak of recovering, and he had a decent chance, biologically speaking, of getting over his injury issues.

Dorrans, almost 10 years older, is not going to benefit from this, with each recovery taking longer.

It’s a crying shame – we know just how much talent Dorrans has, but ever since that injury one year ago, plus the ill-fated return to the first team as a defensive midfielder in the spring, he has been unable to sustain fitness for much longer than a month.

He just seems to be physically broken, to put it as gently as we can.

Yesterday, despite the flattering scoreline, Rangers could have used a lockpick, a creative talent to unpick Hamilton – Ejaria did what he could but he lacks the wisdom Dorrans has, and it was crying out for a Dorrans type to plant their foot on the ball and dictate play.

If this setback is anything to go by, Dorrans will never be that man for Rangers, as much as we want him to get fit.

He really has, sadly, been a painful waste of around £1.5M – for all the ability he has, the inability to stay fit rather voids it.

A real pity.

  1. Sadly l think now this is the end of the road for him, would love to see him back in a light blue shirt but cant see it, must be heartbreaking for the lad

  2. To be honest forgot all about him . Others are there now that will take his place so just another drain on the wage bill .Off topic a bit here disappointed on Durrant video situation should be keeping his mouth shut only gives people shit to throw back at us .We can certainly do without this nonsense as it only brings shame on our club and he has done this .

  3. Disagree think he’s still got a lot to give to be fair. He showed that in Spain. Still got 4 years in him and in my opinion he is quality

    • None of this article attacks his ability Shug, we quite agree with your assessment of his quality. But his inability to stay fit is the point – and right now there's no evidence he's got four years in him given he's hardly played the past year.

  4. He’s been unlucky that’s all I’m saying. Get your point but his injury is not career ending and with modern physio etc I’m sure he’s still got a lot to offer. Might just have a soft spot as I reckon he’s a player and exactly the type we need at minute. The sooner he’s back the better

  5. I agree with a lot of the posts especially Shugs assessment modern medical advances in football have moved on a lot since Durrant. I think he can still lay a cameo in the attempt this season By the way I condemned the sleekit bastard's that filmed Durrant off guard BBC at its shocking anti Rangers Best … especially when that wretch Torbett who interfered with those kids was on the same bulliten but less conspicuous or emphasised.

  6. BillB get a grip ya madman sticking up for Durrant for what he said Its stuff like that that gets our club a bad name ya nugget .Grow up we dont need this nonsense at ibrox .So dont go blaming the guy that filmed it blame the doughball that shouted it all out to be filmed .Concentrate on the football side of things we big games coming up this week we dont need people sticking up for or standing by what Durrant said

  7. Ironic that people saying fuck a person or a God ( if you believe in that ) is worse than kids getting abused at any Club… Two wrongs don’t make a right but I what offence is worse.. Durrant exactly saying burn him at the steak is he..

  8. Absolutely Gutted for Dorrans
…This must be Breaking Him Because He is a Bluenose.

Got a Soft Spot for Him and He is The Player we Need at the Moment so Hope.He is back from Injury Soonish
