Should Rangers make move for Ivory Coast international free agent?

With Kyle Lafferty’s ban from Sunday now in effect and the ongoing problems with Umar Sadiq well-documented, Steven Gerrard desperately has issues with attack.

While the wings have no problems, and the fullbacks are certainly helping out, Gerrard really needs to get in some quality up front, and preferably quality that is likely to deliver.

One such option could be former Monaco striker Lacina Traore, the 6ft 8 colossus who scored for fun in Russia with a 36 in 81 record, while boasting an excellent 11 goals in 38 appearances in both European cup competitions.

The 28-year old was recently freed by the Ligue 1 side at the end of his contract, and an overall 75 goals in 231 appearances is a very decent record for leagues of the standard of Russia and France, and he proudly shows off a four in 13 for his nation as well, the well-respected Ivory Coast side.

However, while on the pitch the man has had a productive career, off it he’s courted a bizarre controversy where it’s claimed he changed his name and age 13 years ago and is actually 30 years of age, having been allegedly born in 1988. Action was taken against him in April of this year and we are unclear as to the progress. We have no idea why he’d do any of this quite honestly.

Nevertheless, on the pitch this once £15M now £3M rated striker is a big lad, and is well known for having a good touch and a clinical finish, although it’s argued he goes down a touch easily. That said, he has good physical strength and a powerful presence.

With Rangers’ lack of options up top a real problem, a free agent like Traore could well be a useful addition as long as his wages are modest and he surely cannot be worse than Sadiq.

Surely?

  1. Don't know anything about him to be honest, but suspect Mark Allen does. Based on the summer's deals, I will put my faith in MA and SG to make the right choices:-)

  3. Yes!
We sign This Guy & We Sign Solanke (on Loan) and then when Solanke's Loan Expires we Sign Another ST unless SG plans to Use Rudden/Hardie
