Rangers Player Ratings: who were the four men 9 and above v Hearts?

As has become traditional under the Steven Gerrard era, here are your post-Hearts player ratings courtesy of your friends at Ibrox Noise.

Let the angry disagreements commence!

Allan McGregor:

His two big saves early on helped define this match. They gave the team the confidence to express themselves, and while he will be devastated by the loss of a clean sheet, it was a pretty imperious display from the big man. 8

James Tavernier:

Defending is staying steady, having improved noticeably v Rapid, Rangers’ captain is definitely in good form right now and while some of his crossing is a little inconsistent, his width on the right is becoming indispensable and he nabbed himself another assist. No wonder Wigan want him back. 8

Connor Goldson:

Another smooth display from the big guy, although was partially at fault for Hearts’ consolation. Nevertheless, had most things under control and led the backline well. 8

Joe Worrall:

Definitely not as convincing as he was Vienna, this was a slow start from the Forest loanee and he was being destroyed early on for pure power by Ikpeazu. Massively beaten aerially for the consolation by Dunne. Times like this we miss Katic. 6

Jon Flanagan:

Another excellent showing from this guy – nothing was going past him and looked stable, robust, and a late smashing tackle summed him up. Really good. 8

Lassana Coulibaly:

Quietish match from the Malian but didn’t do much wrong. Wasn’t maybe as heavily involved the way he can be, but was solid. 7

Scott Arfield:

Slightly shaky early on but composed himself and while not a stunning display individually, he managed to help rally the men around him and worked doggedly off the ball. His goal was just reward for his grit. 7

Ovie Ejaria:

A decent enough outing from Ejaria – his trademark smooth composure on the ball and technical prowess. A lot flowed through him and he did an especially good job of feeding the wings. 7

Ryan Kent:

While his second half was not as scintillating as the first, he’d already done the damage. The second defence in a row to wave a white flag at Kent, but this time he was even better. Flawless. 10

Daniel Candeias:

Ever since we were critical of him, Danny has seriously upped his game. Very good v Vienna and absolutely torrential yesterday, only Kent had a better match than Candy. A fine display and he looks back to his best. 9

Alfredo Morelos:

He’s free-scoring and hitting some excellent form now, and that goal was one of the best we’ve seen at Ibrox in years. Working hard as usual, causing his trademark mischief, and got a wonderful assist with one of his most unselfish moments as a Ranger. That makes us happy. 9

Steven Gerrard:

We can’t understand the Croatia Crew thing, but it doesn’t matter – Gerrard’s Rangers are delivering, his tactics are working, and this was another match in which he barely got a thing wrong. Ok, the tempo in the second half dropped a bit but the work had been done. He’ll be very happy with how this one worked out. 9

What did you make of all these folks?

  1. The biggest change in Morelos for me is his backchat. It's stopped. No dissent no whinging at tackles. Get up gets on. Huge improvement think Stevie Ger has finally got through to him use your frustrations to score goals. Massive mindset change and thats HARD to do. Quedos Morelos.

  2. If it hadn't been for that Livi stumble!
Hope we are playing practice games on 3G in prep for Hamilton away.

  3. Nobody has criticised Morelos more than me, but i'm 100% glad he's proved me wrong and is starting to get his head together. Pretty much agree with your ratings.

  4. Think your scores for the front three are poor. I would have said two 11s and a 12 😁

Awesome first half blew them away. Ikpeazu should have been booked for a blatant dive and again for persistent fouling. They all wanted, and got, Worrall booked after 4 fouls. Ikpeazu committed at least 6. Result? Nada!!

  5. McGregor deserves at least a 9, he kept us in the game with 2 massive saves after we scored our goal and also when Goldson thought he was Davy Cooper trying to take players on and lost the ball,,McGregor made a fine save. Hearts could have easily got a draw with 10 men if it wasn't for our keeper! He was tremendous.
Worral is a worry for me. He is crap in the air! No ariel threat for goal either. Katic is far better than him, don't know whats going on there.
I feel the secret of the success yesterday, was we played the same team as Thursday. Consistency is everything. If we can just master the away games, then maybe, just maybe!!!!

  6. 1. Ratings are Pretty Accurate

    2. Bring Back Katic!

    3. Delighted that Morelos is now keeping his Head Down and doing His Talking on the Pitch.
…Golden Boot this Season I Reckon

    4. Yesterdays Performance was Beautiful to Watch 😍🔴⚪⭕

  7. Finally some love for Candeias on here…the guys a battler and creates goals. His fight against rapid for the final goal and same for 2nd against hearts is typical of his game. Good sign that some of our best players this season are from last season. Tav, Morelos, Candeias. Means gerrard can get the best from players and not just spend money.

  8. Got to agree. Candelas is right up there' as one of our better most consistent performers. Had a lot of time for him last season and is even better this. Honestly think it could be on if we can sort out this plastic pitch block. Still can't actually believe we play professional football on that shite. Anyone who has ever played the game will tell u it's wank and really quite dangerous. This team could do something very special this season I've said it before and I'll say it again. Believe in ourselves we truly are the people

  9. I think I'm being a tad picky but I was really disappointed with our second half performance. In fact more so than I was after the Livingston game which I put down to a bad day at the office. Here, we had a Hearts on their knees with 10 men and we turned away. They had a chance to go 3-2, then what? It worries me that points to a character flaw in the team. If we are going to win things we need to be absolutely ruthless and thoroughly professional for 90 minutes.
