Is Stevie Ger really saying this? Rangers’ manager drops huge hint

After the fallout from yet another dramatic away-day disaster for Rangers, manager Steven Gerrard has again held his hands up and admitted he might have got the match wrong.

We at Ibrox Noise decided against doing a ratings article on this occasion, as it wouldn’t have helped anyone, but Gerrard’s score would have been extremely low sadly, and the Rangers boss has, like he’s done a few times before, suggested he’s made mistakes and played a part in the Mess in Mount Florida.

Speaking after the match he said:

“We didn’t deserve to score. I pick the players, I sign the players, I pick the game plan so I’ll take responsibility for this.”

It is at least decent to have a manager who has the dignity to know when he got something wrong. To be willing to put his head on the chopping block and be accountable following years of arrogance of managers who ‘knew best’.

Furthermore as a rookie boss Gerrard will get things wrong – he is learning on the job so learning to take criticism and hold responsibility is commendable and admirable.

However, he must remember not to saturate bad results by doing this every time. He did make mistakes yesterday, absolutely – but the players really let the club and their manager down too. And while he has rightly called that as well, he should be careful not to lay on the ‘I got it wrong’ rhetoric too thickly as eventually he’ll lose fans’ trust that he can actually get it right.

We’re behind you Stevie, just try to keep the balance!

  1. "We didnt deserve to score, i pick the players, i sign the players" is clearly a not-so vieled swipe at our number 9 in my books. He's effectively taking blame for signing that kipper and not the result.

  2. As a superb world class player Steven Gerrard wore his heart on his sleeve …and he still does this as a manager. I like that a lot he will learn a big lesson from that game especially to be brave and make changes as soon as you see it going wrong a trait all top managers have to have . The quality of player is better but still needs to improve significantly if we are to win the league . It hurts us all knowing that the Sheep Shaggers are so crap and we have handed the Rotten Mob an easy Final again…I read McInnes saying they can beat the Scum lololo fuck off… Only that stitch up last game of last season was a joke….Let's stay strong lots of points to play for in December …WATP The board will back him with money in January ….

    • Ha ha ha Billb Money in January
I Say on here all the time King equals No Trophies
      Trophies equals No King
Some real drivel about the Inquest from Sundays Game he should have Played Haliday DRIVEL – He Should have put Arfield on Earlier Drivel
now we are talking about bringing Cummings back PURE DRIVEL
I honestly think Gerrard could be the real deal yes he is making mistakes but
loan signings and unwanted palyers at 1-3 Million doesnt win you anything
UNLESS King spends money in Jan 20 Mill MINIMUM
THEN BE PREPARED FOR A TREBLE TREBLE
And all you people out there supporting the board will be partly responsible as will IN for not bringing King to account

  3. IN I agree with your points here. SG is going to make mistakes. But here's my point…what was Gary McAllistair doing?? He's meant to be Stevie G's right-hand man. Why was he not telling him to sub right away? Or,did he say something and was ignored? We don't know. We really need to be knowing a bit more, on that score. Yesterday reminded me of Murty and the ever silent. Jimmy Nichol. I mean…really. What's going on? Still, i'm fully prepared to give him time. He'll need it, if THAT is where we're at. No idea how they can play better with foreign teams, but let not good teams in our league, take the mick out of us. Fed up with it now. Cost us the chance for silver-ware now.

  4. As much as the introduction of Sadiq was a huge shock like all I was hoping he would get on the score sheet and we would win. Not for the obvious reasons but I thought he did reasonably well and if he had scored I would have played him against Kilmarnock…more to teach Morelos a lesson that when you drop out of the team for stupidity you have to fight for your place to get back in.
