“I’m sorry” – Rangers man apologises to fans…

Following his mature concession that Rangers were lucky yesterday, Jordan Rossiter has apologised for his own part in Scott Boyd’s rasping goal which saw such a nervous spell against Hamilton before James Tavernier’s first penalty gave Steven Gerrard’s visitors some breathing room.

Boyd found himself in acres of space, and especially did the former England youth captain with rather feeble ease before letting off a 25-yard rocket into the roof of the net, and Rossiter has said sorry that the home goalscorer got past him so easily.

He said:

“To be honest I have a long way to go in terms of getting back to fitness. To be fair the lad has cut inside me for their goal and I apologise for that.”

Rossiter was clearly a long way off match sharpness, albeit a number of fans have been very kind on him and rated him very highly for his display, but we feel there may have been a touch of sentimentality about this as Rossiter appeared to struggle, for us, especially with regards fitness, reading, judgement and mental awareness at this level.

This was never more prevalent than at the goal – but few are happier than us seeing him back and getting there again – we had him pegged as a certain January departure, but yesterday’s outing gives us hope that there’s a chance for Rossiter to turn the past two nightmarish years round.

We hold out belief the Easter Road Rossiter is ready and waiting.

  1. Considering he's been out for so long I think he done not bad. Feeble attempt at the goal, too many backwards and square passes. Was bad enough watching it at 0-0, got worse when we scored. Can't believe they passed the ball to Katic so many times aftee his howler of a half. Don't think I've seen our defenders pass the ball about the back anywhere near as much, mcregor probably had more touches in that game than any since hes been back. First away win a 3 points with them all winning, would've taken 1-4 before the game, certainly will after!

  2. IB you are being harsh! Rossiter was the only one in midfield to get even pass marks and, taking account of his absence, those in blue who praised his contribution, were right (and supportive) to do so. Ejara and Collibaly were posted missing for the entire match. One hopes that Jack was being kept in reserve for the bigger games ahead and that, as suggested by Gerard, Arfield will be back in on Thursday. Ejara is clearly very skillful but he doesn't move the ball forward quickly enough. He looks good on the eye but is not decisive enough and rarely creates chances, with a defense splitting pass. Playing 3 TOTALLY defensive midfield players against Hamilton was not the work of a tactical genius and one hopes that that was purely down to the availability of players. Indeed, going forward it is a concern that out of 8 midfield players on the books (excluding Murphy for obvious reasons), only Arfield and Dorrans could be considered attack minded. In 90% of our matches, it is down to the front three to create goal chances – as well as finish them (with the obvious exclusion, thank God, of our captain). That is simply not good enough and is an issue to be addressed going forward.

    • Our biggest weakness at the moment is cover for the middle man in a 4-2-3-1, or the advanced midfielder in a 4-3-3. Dorrans out, again leaves us only with Arfield. That has to be the January priority, ahead of even a striker.
Should have been obvious when we let Windass go, although to be fair SG may have also had Murphy in mind for that role.

  3. Bottom line the full Team wasn’t firing on all cylinders bar Shagger. Least Rossiter has put his hands up for the goal and apologised and admits it, takes a man to admit his errors. Katic I thought was looking uncomfortable being on the pitch, his passing was off but cleared his lines bar once..

End of the day we played below standard and come away with 3 points and a better goal difference. How many times did we struggle away from home under Walter, but we still bagged the points and that’s the nuts & bolts of the Table come the end of season Ladies & Gents

  4. Like many, I was glad to see Rossiter playing yesterday and he’ll be raring to go in his next match in March or April, all being well.

    • Bolton, let's wait and see if he is unavailable first. After his first 80 minutes in a while, suspect he will not appear against the sheep, so will be league match after that.

  5. we need a number 10. that's the biggest thing missing. someone who can open up a defence, pick a pass and be a goal threat from the edge of the box. problem is will cost a pretty penny or would be looking at another loan which wouldn't be ideal.

  6. At least he did, apologise. The important thing here, is that he finished a game un-injured. I think he was avoiding heavy tackling i.m.o. and we know Hamilton are physical. I haven't seen any of the other players, apologise for getting fooled. If he can stay fit, we may see better displays. No disrespect to CG, I've seen him get mugged-off, more than once. Nobody says too much, about that.
