Following last night’s heroics at Ibrox, Steven Gerrard’s Rangers have the chance to do it all over again this weekend at the same venue against a rampant Hearts who top the table by an astonishing five points.
Obviously, a win this weekend against the best side in Scotland right now wouldn’t necessarily address the troubling away record which dogs the club, but it would certainly be a major statement to the rest of the league that, at the very least, following the incredible performance and result in Govan last night, that Ibrox may just be starting to restore a little of its former fortress status.
Hearts have barely dropped any points, dropping just the two points ironically enough to the same men who got even more joy when Rangers came to town last week, so we know Craig Levein’s side will be the toughest nut to crack.
Indeed, this Tynecastle outfit are probably in their best form for 13 years when George Burley’s rampant Hearts topped the table and looked a serious contender for the title until Mad Vlad Romanov ensured self destruction.
So with everyone around Levein’s side dropping points left right and centre, their consistency has led them to this point, and they will be respected.
Indeed, they have won every match bar that draw with Livi – which, of course, means they’ve not yet failed to win on their travels, overcoming Killie, Hamilton and Motherwell on the road. And of course, comfortably taking the 3 points from Celtic too.
But if Rangers were to take last night’s momentum and clinch the win, while its effect on league position depends heavily on Saturday’s results, it would be some sense of consistency, even if only at home for the moment, that Rangers are slowly resurrecting Ibrox to its former glory.
To turn a bad situation around in football it is absolutely imperative to win your home matches at the very least – challenging for honours then incorporates winning away too, but getting the house in order is the starting point, and we have to admit Steven Gerrard has shown real signs of achieving that.
He promised he’d fix the defence as a priority when he joined, and he has kept to that.
Now, making our home a place for opponents dread is the next stage, and if signs this season so far are anything to go by, he’s making that reality too.
We will find out on Sunday just how real it is becoming.

Sundays Match is a Must-Win if we are even thinking about Catching Them.
The up one minute, down the next rollercoaster ride of being a Rangers fan, is never dull. But we need more consistency. I respect, Levein. The man is no fool. It'll be a tricky game. If we get 1-0 nil, i'd be grateful. Settle for a draw, but hoping for a win. Praying, no another loss. Hearts are the right team, to test us. That's for sure. It'll be an exciting game. Need to make sure the formation and tactics, are right.
If the best of our ambition is to settle for a draw then we really are fecked. We are at home and anything less than a win will be disappointing.
