Could Steven Gerrard make stunning £1M January bid for 23-year old?

If one thing has been abundantly clear this season, it’s that the summer’s business up front was a failure.

No two ways about it – Lafferty hasn’t delivered, Sadiq has been a joke, and Steven Gerrard’s decision to ditch Jason Cummings is looking more and more of a mistake.

The Scotland striker has had an excellent season in England’s League One, with a fine six goals and four assists so far this campaign in 12 appearances total. If he doesn’t score, he makes one, which certainly laughs in the face of the idea he isn’t a good supporting striker.

And with Rangers’ well-documented striker issues this season being a real problem, frankly getting rid of a player who 100% wants to be a Rangers player and only recently confirmed he misses Ibrox and wants back via social network, while the player has plenty to offer as well was simply wrong.

While we wouldn’t pretend Cummings is Kylian Mbappe, Rangers right now lack a depth of quality up front, with only Morelos seemingly being a reliable option, and, of course, thanks to his frequent brushes with indiscipline, the reliability factor takes a hit.

Then it’s just Lafferty and Sadiq, neither of whom have convinced the fans at best.

We see no reason why Rangers cannot make a bid for Cummings this January – Forest don’t want him, Karanka can’t stand him, and he’s more or less admitted he’s not interested in being there.

A £1M bid to get the guy where he wants to be and will give everything for the shirt seems smart business, and we’d forgive Gerrard’s mistake in not being interested in signing him.

However he performed yesterday, Sadiq has been a turkey so far, and Gerrard signed him and not Cummings.

How many Rangers fans would have given their right arm for Jason Cummings being the one through on goal for that chance yesterday?

  1. Didn't want him to leave I love this laddie's enthusiasm and desire. He is fully aware of what Scottish Football is all about…Welcome him back tomorrow he really didn't do too much wrong…. bet he was on less dough than Sadiq !!! #cumdog

    • Possibly but he is aware of what it's all about in Scotland and he is a goal threat everytime he's in or around the box and is good at link up play .

  2. didn't hack hit first time around – being a b nose isn't the criteria required. hunted by Notts Forest, didn't crack it here and now in the lower leagues in Engurland. Beware of what u wish for .

  3. Cummings is not the answer, didn't offer much when he was on loan and wouldn't get near the team ahead of Morelos and Lafferty

  4. Argee with Olly, he cant play the lone striker role.

Also IN your reasons for signing Cummings sounds awfully familiar **coughs** Lafferty **coughs**

    • He can’t play any role!!He was rubbish when he played for us. How many goals did he score?Docherty,Cummings and Rossiter are all better players when they are not playing. Cummings Isn’t here because he’s NOT good enough,Simple as that.

  5. Never had a decent run in the starting 11, and I would love to see him back. Olly/c is right that he cannot play the lone striker role, but should we be playing a loan striker at home? The guy is gallus, has a great touch, knows where the net is, and is desperate to be here.

  6. Absolutely not good enough for Rangers. Really don't understand the clamour for a Scottish Championship player now plying his trade in League 1.
Behaviour also leaves a lot to be desired.
    We need to look elsewhere,
    Cumdog is NOT the answer.

  7. Cummings will score goals all day long as long as he get the ball in and around the box, he is not a hold the ball up player and that to me could be a problem , but give him the ball in the box and he will score. Feel he never got the chance when he was here and let's be honest we are a far better team now under Gerrand although as yesterday showed we have a bit to go yet.

  8. I really hope we don't bring back Cummings. Scoring a few goals in league 1 is a whole different proposition from playing for Rangers. He did nothing when he was here on loan, we need to set our sights a bit higher if we are going to progress.

  9. Its the single striker role that's costing us,when u have one up front he has to have that yard of pace to get away from defenders, morelos is a good strong young player and has a lot of skill but he's not quick,if it was me I would stick with moreloos and lafferty two man strike force but I know its not going to happen, playing as a central defender these days is a doddle.

  10. Agree with the majority of comments here. I like him, he is a bluenose, but so are most of the people on here. We are not good enough either.
Cummings plays with a partner, never on his own. So IN, to make the case you should either demonstrate an argument why he can play on his own, or why we should change tactics. Either is possible. Yes, its only 1st Division, but some people are calling for Docherty to come back because he is doing well there. Personally, much as I like him, I don't think Cummings is good enough, although I think Docherty might make it

    • We didn't make a single argument why he should play on his own SWH. And to only have one tactical plan is probably kind of half the reason we're currently struggling to put consistency on the table. Cummings is an excellent striker, and whether that's alone or as part of a duo he'd be a good addition.

    • No, I get that. My point was do you feel he can play on his own or do you think we should change tactics.
Your response, the ability to vary approach, is a valid one. But, if he is good, eg better than Sadiq, would he want to come to play every now and then?
I think we need someoen who is demonstrably better than Lafferty, if we are to improve the squad. Given that Morelos is No 1 and so our third striker will play rarely. Lafferty is No 2 and will play most games if Morelos is out, so no point in someone who won't play, they need to be able to take sub jersey off Lafferty. I don't think Cummings is that guy, much as I like him.
Still, different points of view is the whole point of a exchange of views

  11. No pace, poor first touch, not great in the air. These are not attributes we need in a striker if we want to win 55

  12. Sounds like the Rangers way, sign him for a million when we could've probably had him for half that a few months ago.
Still feel he would be a useful back up if we could get him for under £500k but no more than that. But don't see him as a starter and hope we are looking at a higher level.

  13. Yes! take him Back!

    1. Knows Scottish Football inside and Out

    2. Is a Bluenose
    3. Knows Where the Goal is
    4. Wasnt Given a Fair Shot During Loan

    5. Will be reltively cheap and bags of Potential and still only 23!

  14. I'd trust Gerrard to find someone better than Cummings. He's decent, but far from what we actually need. He's far from Morelos' standard.
