Steven Gerrard confirms attacking starter for Villarreal

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed Ryan Kent will start in attack for Rangers, in an admittedly fairly unsurprisingly concession about his selections for the trip to Villarreal on Thursday.

The on-loan Liverpool winger has significantly grown into his role over the past three weeks and was one of Rangers’ stand outs in the poor display at Parkhead, with Ibrox Noise advocating he kept his place for the visit of Dundee.

He did exactly that and managed his first goal, a finely-taken strike at that after a good team move, and Gerrard did say he just needed that first goal, that first assist and he’d kick on at last.

Well, he’s managed it now, and maintained his level of performance, and indeed was given MOTM yesterday, and now his boss has confirmed he will start in Spain.

Gerrard, speaking to the official site, said:

“Him (Ryan) and Scott were terrific today but I wanted to get him off because I’m going to need his energy and I’m going to need another performance of that level on Thursday night.”

We can probably already piece together the majority of Thursday’s XI in truth, but Gerrard has evidently confirmed already that Kent will be one of them, and following his being Rangers’ overall best performer in the past two fixtures, that’s not a huge shock.

  1. He had a great game but where are you getting the MOTM award from? Scott Arfield was given MOTM at the game. Were you at the game??
