Steven Gerrard drops massive hint about Umar Sadiq

Steven Gerrard has as good as admitted summer loan signing Umar Sadiq is not in his plans and is likely to leave in January.

The Nigeria U23 striker, whose career record is nevertheless impressive, has not settled in Scotland and has been unable to impact on the first team in his time north of the border, leading many to doubt if he had any kind of a future at Ibrox with us now nearing October.

And if the manager’s testimony is anything to go by, he doesn’t. He said:

“If you’re asking me if I’d want the four of them for next year, I’d sign them right now. We rate them highly. In an ideal world, they’d all be on four or five-year deals but unfortunately it doesn’t work like that. We have to be respectful to their parent clubs. I’m still in Jurgen Klopp’s good books, so if Liverpool keep winning maybe there’s some scope.”

The ‘four of them’ referred to Ryan Kent, Ovie Ejaria, Joe Worrall and Lassana Coulibaly and explicitly omitted the on-loan giant from Roma, suggesting his time in Govan is derailing rapidly.

A telling absence from Tuesday’s reserve fixture at St Andrews, Sadiq was included for the trip to Spain and made the bench but given Alfredo Morelos’ suspension this was down to striking numbers rather than anything else.

It’s a shame, as the lad clearly has something about him – you don’t score a healthy number in Holland for a struggling team or a few for Roma in Serie A or indeed a very respectable amount for your country if you can’t play, but evidently, as yet, it doesn’t appear he has settled in the SPL.

There may be time for a shock turnaround, but going by Steven Gerrard’s comments, he isn’t expecting one.

  1. You may well be right, but my take on what SG said was that he was talking about the four that have made it into the first team.
No point in wanting someone you are not playing. But if he doesn't break in by Christmas, the maybe as well he goes home. Signing Lafferty, another tall gangly boy with pace is not essential.

  2. I don’t believe he’s written off. Just taking longer to settle perhaps. If he has a good 2nd half of the season Gerard’s tune will change. It’s a marathon not a sprint.

  3. We’re so used to the filth polluting our columns on a daily basis and talking trash, so il leave a wee well done killie note for they’re impending presence and “ lets all laugh at smelltic”. , looking ahead , I’m predicting a rangers rout against St Johnstone 4-0. And leapfrogging the scum , Lets Gooooo

    • Yesssss🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺
Oops 2-1 septic brendas last season
      2nd💪

      Watp lets goooooooo!🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

  4. 4-0 I said , wasn’t far off. Also no scum in sight , I wonder why . Nothing to shout about today.
Great performance gers, we need that week in week out. Onwards and upwards WATP

  5. Aaron Johnson…knows nothing about football…and probably only sees h9ghlights 9n the telly and never at Ibrox…creative attacking players like Kent generally g9be the ball away more because they are the ones trying to make a difference and cut teams open in the final third…he got a standing ovation when he went off today…people who go and watch every week are far more clued up than you.. STOP slagging off Rangers players…leave that to the obsessed mhanky mob (unless you are one of them?)…we are definitely back…Follow Follow. In Stevie G we trust WATP 🇬🇧

  6. let the good times keep comming, great result for son's of aryshire and even better for the teddy bears no surrender let's go 55 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

  7. I Would Try and Keep Worrall & Coulibaly
…I Would Send Kent and Ejaria Back

My Reason for Sending Kent Back
…Although he has Improved, Hes Not Consistent and can Disappear in Games and also because we Have Candeias, Murphy, Grezda, Middleton etc

My Reason for Sending Ejaria Back
…Ok Yes, He has had a couple of Decent Performances but He isn't an Automatic starter and to be honest, He hasn't exactly set the Heather Alight

Sadly I Was One Person who Knew From Day 1 that Signing Sadiq was a Mistake, That We Didn't Need Him/That He Wouldn't Be Able to Cut it in the SPL
