It’s time for Neil Doncaster to quit

It’s not often we find ourselves agreeing with Craig Levein, but frankly we cannot believe the depths of incompetence the SPFL and Neil Doncaster in particular have plummeted to.

When it was announced both semis were to be on the same day, it simply emphasised the laughing stock of the world that is Scottish football.

Why our game north of the border is run so amateurishly only the powers-that-be truly know, but to put two 50,000 attendance matches on the same day and leave Mount Florida to deal with potentially more than 100,000 people traipsing down Cathcart Road is something we absolutely cannot comprehend.

CEO Doncaster said:

“This suits everyone.”

How the man could lie so brazenly is beyond us, even with a bit of a smile as he said it.

We’re hardly Aberdeen’s best friends but to ask our northern chums to do a 300-mile round trip at God-knows AM to make a 12PM KO is one of the most preposterous things we’ve ever heard in world football, and we’ve heard some absolute corkers.

Logistically, this is a nightmare – preparing a stadium twice for a match in 24 hours of the size of a cup semi is so barkers we are half waiting for Doncaster to say he’s only joking.

But he probably isn’t. This is deadly serious – Mount Florida will get swamped in a number of weeks with Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Aberdeen fans effectively at the same time.

Have they even considered the policing this will require?

We know we as football fans often have goes at each other and hate this and that, but, and this goes to all three of the other teams’ fans – we don’t want anyone hurt or risked safety wise. We already saw that recent crushing disaster at Parkhead which thankfully did not lead to loss of life (albeit there were injuries) – well, chucking 25,000 Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts fans at the same stadium area on the same time is simply not on.

This is something which must be reversed, and if not, the resignation of Doncaster must follow and the appointment of someone capable instead.

We’ve had enough bad things happen in Scottish football over the years to willing add more to them by idiocy like this.

  1. Scottish football needs an entire overhaul… personally we should be looking for someone nonscottish as a start. Purely cause then there should be no bias in there approach.

Another I’ve been thinking recently is I’d like to see if we could swap our refs for English championship a couple of times a season… especially for the bigger Derby’s. Would also get our refs working with the English refs and hopefully improving

  2. Agree with article. I have been saying for years Doncaster and the Celtic SFA board has been a fraud and disastrous for our game. What has he done over the years to improve our game? Nothing?! Get him and the rest of the beggars out, start looking at the Croatian or German footballing/business model and copy it verbatim, then we might start seeing results.
The Celtic SFA needs a clear out and fill with experienced football and business minded genius,, We have been gutter level football for over 30 years. Where the rest of the world advanced, we stayed and kept playing the long ball, fecking embarrassing. WE are the minnows now, and that's a fact!!

  3. A decision that has equal amounts of idiocy, incompetence and unawareness.

The south side of Glasgow and the city centre will be a see of Blue, Green, Red and Maroon. Central station, Queen Street Station and all transport networks will be carnage.

The pubs will be on high alert.

    The police have no chance.

If it wasn’t such a dangerous decision it would be laughable.

Ps: what the fuck has the standard of refereeing got to do with this post Stuart?

  4. I don't know what options the SFA had if they were contractually bound to play both games at Hampden. With Rangers and Celtic both playing on the Thursday in UEFA how would the SFA decide fairly who plays on the Saturday and who plays on the Sunday. If it was an easy decision to make it would have been made.

  5. This is another example of the joke that it is Scottish Football Administration and set up across all the shambolic lot both structure and personnel both SPFL SFA etc etc …If this not reversed it will be carnage ….I fear the worse

  6. On reflection it may be down to the planned draw for the semis went wrong and somehow the wrong balls were picked thus messing up the original plan of drawing us against the scum to play on the sunday who actually made the draw not a pissed Rod Stewart by any chance?

On reflection it would seem that some how the pre arranged draw of Rangers against the scum got cocked up meaning that the game on Saturday would have been between the sheep shaggers and the jambos and Sunday was our day to play making everybody happy

  7. How can you sum it up in one word – Clusterfuck…

In all my given days I’ve seen heard and saw some crazy shit but decision tops the lot. Honestly I was in total disbelief when I saw it in the media. It doesn’t take a fucking rocket scientist to work out what’s going to happen – total carnage!!

I mean of the 4 Clubs involved you couldn’t really have got a bigger powder keg, but guess what we’ll get them all to play on the same day at the same venue… Jackonory couldn’t make this disaster up, how to bring our game into the biggest disrepute after this fiasco..

Surely the Police & Ambulance Service will call this a Public Safety issue and say bollocks to Doncaster the mug…

  8. Rangers supporters have been travelling AM to AM for generations to support their team playing. From all parts of Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. Don't use a 2+ hour drive from Aberdeen to Glasgow as an excuse to change times or venues. It's just laughable. Sure, there are genuine reasons for disbelief at the proposals but the transporting of sheep to Hampden for a slaughter ain't one o' them.

  9. What they ahould have done was…

Had them on the Same Day
    BUT Had
    Hearts/Celtic at Murrayfield
    & Rangers/Aberdeen at Hampden

…it would be totally pointless for Rangers/Aberdeen to be played in Edinburgh 🤔👊

  10. Agree completely, personally I'd like rid of the SPFL entirely. The SFA should run the country's football. The lower leagues run pretty well and we don't see this kinda of bollocks from them. I would like to see someone like Wenger take the lead. He is all about youth and future planning. Unlikely I know but someone like him is required.
