Steven Gerrard to make bid for Albanian star; reports

Steven Gerrard has today been linked with a second raid on Osijek, with a credited interest in Albanian international Eros Grezda.

The 23-year old winger is being earmarked as a replacement for Jamie Murphy, and is reputed to cost in the region of 3M Euros.

Six-times capped for his country, the rising star of Croatian football has been credited with a desire to leave Osijek and join his ex-team mate Borna Barisic in Govan according to ‘Sports News’, and with Murphy’s long-term absence from the team needing imminent replacement, an international winger/attacking midfielder could be a very savvy signature to capture.

Some reports allege he is already in Scotland but we can’t verify those – after all, Steven Gerrard dismissed the story yesterday about Sporting’s Ryan Gauld despite some outlets claiming the deal was practically done.

Rangers do need to fill up the wing slots and if the interest in Grezda is real, he could well be a fine solution.

  1. Does that mean that SG is not interested in Worral or would the Albanian boy be in addition to?

  2. Seems like a clever idea especially if Borna already has a rapour with Eros. The signings from Croatia have been superb , i never realised how good Borna was until yesterday. Well spotted IN , you noticed him quickly as a good player.

    1. Hi Martin, that was specifically the groundwork of Richard, who is no longer with us. That said, Barisic did have a great night against us and stood out a mile with that bandage!

  3. I have no clue, but I would take an educated guess as to say yes. I think Stevie G is plotting a double move this week. We definitely need more cover at the back, and replacing Murphy with the Albanian international would be, as IN rightly pointed out, a very fine move indeed. He and Borna would have an immediate partnership. I truly hope this deal, and the Worrall deal, go through.

  4. The Evening Times is saying that's he's in Glasgow and ready to put pen to paper on a £2M move, they have been wrong on a number of times so im watching this one with interest

  5. I would've thought we had enough wide players. We have Candeias, Kent and Middleton as wingers. We also have Tavernier and Barisic as virtual wingers. Then we have players like Lafferty and Sadiq (what's happened to him?) who can play from out wide. If we play 2 up I think it unlikely we would use 2 wingers in any case.
Surely our efforts should be used finding the elusive 3rd CB or a number 10 playmaker.
