POLL: would Rangers fans prefer UFA walkover, or not…?

With the stunning news about FC UFA still resonating throughout Govan, Steven Gerrard has publicly suggested he wants the Russians to get over their visa hurdle and be available to compete in the play-off stage at Ibrox.

The sixth placed Premier League outfit have been unable to secure temporary visas to travel to Ibrox in time, and their legal right to play the fourth UEL round is under significant threat, possibly leading to Rangers receiving a bye.

But would we want this?

If we recall, Celtic benefitted from legal issues in recent European campaigns (managing to be restored to Europe after being KO’d) and while we don’t strictly want anything handed to us on our return to the top, there are definitely benefits to getting a walkover and not risking injury, while equally the honourable part of us wants to win our way legitimately to the group stage.

But it would be a guaranteed £2.92M purse to get to the group stage and we would have had no risk to arrive there.

Tricky one. Bye or no bye?

  1. I'd rather get there fair and square. I think the way Gerrard has us playing there is no chance of anyone slacking in the Celtic game.

  2. The bypass to 2.9m Sounds good but lets do it the right way win fair and square and get the job done💪

    LETS GO WATP 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

  3. Hope we get the bye as we are playing the plastic paddy scum after having to come back from Russia, no risk of injured players but will lady luck shine on us ? Probably not

  4. I'd definately much rather see the team earn their way there, not to mention It's an extra couple of european dates for the fans. However, the Celtic fans meltdown would likely be hilarious if the Gers did get a bye.

  5. I'd definately prefer to see the team earn their way through, not to mention It's another two European fixtures for the fans and added gate receipts for the club. However the Celtic fans meltdown would likely be hilarious if the Gers did get a bye.

  6. I voted for a bye the only reason for that I think UFA play on a a plastic pitch.
I I am wrong, then lets do it fair and square. I hope I'm wrong

  7. I would rather play them and win from a Glory perspective. I would rather play them and win because we would generate over £1 million from tickets, programmes and pies.

BUT, I would rather have a walkover than lose. I would rather we rested our players who have had a lot of games without a rest, early in what we hope is going to be a long season.

So I will take what I can get

  8. This strange circumstance certainly offers a decent level of debate…
My base thoughts are that we could do without the 5000 mile round trip a few days before the trip to Celtic Park.
So, I would be more than happy if the Russians bow out.
Every advantage to be found, and utilised , in other words.

  9. Look, I get why people would be stoked about getting a free pass through to the group stage. I can't fault anyone for that whatsoever. With that being said, however, the competitor in me absolutely wants to see us go through those Russians like a hot knife through butter. Personally, getting a walk over to the next round would cheapen the whole journey we're on. The journey is taking back our spot as a major club through pure will and force. Let's get these Russians their visas with great haste, so we can put them to the sword come Thursday! This isn't just about the money. This is about laying down a helluva huge marker while also pumping a tasty pay day into the coffers. I certainly wouldn't have it any other way.

  10. I hope its not a bye. Shame for Ufa if it is. Fair and square and the more we play the better we get just in time for that lot.

  11. Why couldn’t Rangers play the away leg first? Then we wouldn’t have all that traveling before the old firm match

    • Because the bheasts would be playing at home on the same night.Anybody saying they don't want a bye is clearly at it or of questionable stock.
They got their visas(I don't think that was ever in question)in any case so we'll be doing it on the pitch.

  12. I’m unsure how it works. If we get a 3-0 win for the forfeited game then have to play over there second leg I would rather play the whole tie. If we can get a bye and not have to travel back from Russia days before the old firm take the bye and thoroughly prepare for Celtic game.

    • You forfeit the whole tie if you can't fulfil a fixture. If that was the case any team 4 up from the first leg would just blank the return.3-0 awards are given for playing unregistered players etc.

  13. Obviously would prefer to win to get there but a by would be quite helpful with the old firm scheduled for the Sunday after the away leg either way still confident for both

  14. Take the bye. We've already done more than enough to justify our place in the group stages so why risk losing and missing out on around £5-6m. We've also played a lot of games in a very short period of time and picking up a lot of injuries. It would be good to stop, draw breath, clear our injury list and start building towards the Ceptic game. The money is too good to risk and the Ceptic game is too important.

  15. Gain an extra million in revenue or pass on that to be guaranteed multi millions and rest before Fir Park and Parkhead. We lost Murphy to a plastic pitch which Ufa also play on. I'd rather we got the bye to wrap our boys up in cotton wool before Parkhead. 5000 mile trip is a horrid prospect but if we play them then the mindset changes and I say being it on.

We will just need to play with the hand that's dealt when we find out today.

  16. Normally. no. But these are NOT, normal times. We're not sitting at the top of the pile. This season, every bit of help, helps. Take the bye.

  17. Id love to see us get through by winning Fair and Square but given we are playing Celtic 2-3days later…

For this one, Id Take The By(e) 👍⚽
