Kyle Lafferty and the £750,000...

As the Kyle Lafferty saga rumbles on with claims that Hearts have rejected a cash plus Lee Wallace offer, amidst reports the Tynecastle side want £750,000 for the Northern Irish striker, it has become patently clear now that not securing his signature would be extremely foolish and a real dud move.

Manager Steven Gerrard has kept his cards close to his chest on this deal, which suggests he really wants it to happen, but he has also praised the board for backing him every step of the way.

The spending so far has seen £1M for Jamie Murphy, £3M for Connor Goldson, £2M for Nikola Katic, and £2M for Borna Barisic.

Money well spent so far, we have to say.

But for there to be silly negotiations over Lafferty and penny pinching in the face of the signature of a man who wants to come here, who is red hot in form, who’s an international, who the fans want and who knows what Rangers are all about is quite simply idiotic.

Sure, test the water with a £200,000 bid, but after the efficiency of the other deals this summer, with millions spent, seeing this one drawn out over the matter of a few hundred thousand is looking very silly indeed.

Rangers lack up front. That’s patently clear. Alfredo Morelos is the only reliable striker Rangers have, with Umar Sadiq not yet quite fitting in. The Nigerian will take time, but Rangers need something assured now. And Lafferty is the best striker in the SPL outwith the Old Firm.

The board must back Gerrard on this – sure, don’t pay silly money for a guy in the final year of his deal and the wrong side of 30, but to suggest £750,000 isn’t valid cash and haggling for an international who scores for fun in the SPL while happily shelling out £1M for a 28 year old with just one international cap for Scotland (Jamie Murphy) is odd at best.

Just do it Rangers – pay them the money and get the man we want.

We doubt we’re alone in thinking this.

    1. I hope you’re being facetious. To the best of my knowledge Lafferty hasn’t publicly slated us; unlike an certain Mr Boyd

    2. God no, he's slow and doesn't defend. Useless against top 6 in his prime...

    3. Although the suggestion to buy Boyd is clearly a wind up, those demanding that we pay sh*t loads of money for Lafferty should be aware that Boyds goals/game record last year was far better than Lafferty's.
Lafferty wasn't that good first time around & although I'd be happy to see him signed for 400-500K any more would be a waste of money.

  2. Well said IN, get him signed asap even if it takes £1m

  5. Gerard has built a team of solid quality ,with mibe Murphy the exception, ojeria,Sadiq yet to be proven ,for me lafferty doesn't fit and is a step backward

  6. As much as I think signing Judas Laff would give us a boost up top, and perhaps psychologically, I can’t help but spew at the thought of giving that arsehole Levein anywhere near a million squid.

For that money we must be able to get a better deal. If not, slap an offer of a half mill down and tell them it’s the final offer. Deal or no Deal.

  7. Hearts are being a bit silly. If we’ve offered money plus Wallace I don’t get why hearts would say no. Wallace is easily worth that but hey ho. They obviously need the money. But we also need people off of the wage bill after fod and hodson never left last week

  10. Even at £1m its Still a Bargain!
Because if we get 3-4yrs out of him thats just over 300k a year!
...hardly breaking the bank for a proven spl goalscorer is it? 🤔

Just sign him ffs! He wants home!
    #GetHimToGovan

How much do u think a goalscorer with his goal rate anywhere else would cost?
    ...a couple of million easy!

    1. Yeah like obviously I dont expect him to just be given the LB slot back.

But if Stevie G gives him a clean slate then hes a good enough back up for Barisic 🤔👍

  12. Not so sure we should be held ransom how, much is he worth to anyone other than rangers?
£400,000 is a realistic amount so £500,000 to us tops

  13. I'd rather pay £2m for a foreigner than give Hearts more than £500k. They are chancing their arm and will end up with an unhappy player who will walk away for nothing at the end of the season. I'm sick of teams trying to milk us for every penny at every turn.

    1. Id rather pay 500-600k for a proven SPL Goalscorer 🤔

Than £2m for someone who might not fit the game in Scotland and score None!

    2. Actually his scoring record for Rangers in the SPL wasn't that great with just 31 league goals in 4 years. Another 13 with Hearts last season gives an average of 9 goals a season. Surely Gerrard could find a young striker for £2m with sell on potential that could match that strike rate. Even Pena would score that many!
I would take Lafferty but not for more than £500k.

  15. Don't like the link with Wallace. Bad experiences recently but he stayed during bad times whilst others jumped ship for their own gain, including Laff. If he does return he needs to be best form consistently as I for one struggle to forget his rush out the door.......will back Stevie G but Laff owes us big time

  16. I would rather have one of those two Bosnian strikers we were linked with especially Armin Hodzic.

  17. I cant understand why our pride gets in the way of stopping the septics on their run. Back in the day it was Murray who gambled and lost. It wasn’t the squads fault and that includes Naismith.

  18. Buy Curtis Main. Younger and also, a viable option. Is younger than Lafferty and can score. 700k is too much and as usual, Hearts take the piss.
