Is the most valuable player in the SPL at Ibrox?

With his pre-Killie presser suggesting Steven Gerrard valued his star striker Alfredo Morelos at around £10M when he said ‘something more than far more’ in response to the merits of £3.75M being bid by Bordeaux, it seems the Colombian hitman is in the form of his life and is only going to get better, making his value £20M overnight.

Footballers cost stupid money. If a 26-year old 6-time Scotland cap like Stuart Armstrong can net Celtic £7M, a Colombian 22-year old (who may now start knocking on the door of his national team) who scores for fun and works like a tiger deeper in midfield is easily well over double that.

Gerrard was right. Something more than far more. With yesterday’s absolutely stunning display (silly pull on Killie mid aside) fresh in the memory, Morelos is blooming under his new manager, looks happy at last to be at Rangers, and is looking finally like he actually wants to be here.

He is in every sense realising his potential, and is becoming the best striker in the SPL – if he isn’t already going by his scoring record last season in far inferior form.

This wasn’t a diddy side Morelos destroyed – this was arguably, outwith Parkhead and Easter Road the toughest place for Rangers to go and he made the art of forward play look easy as pie.

While the overall performance of the team was outstanding and the best Rangers showing at Killie in a long, long time, Morelos stood above everyone and sent his own value into the stratosphere.

We have been critical of Alfie, worrying that his petulance would undermine his ability and become what he was defined by. More and more his manager is nurturing him though, and we can see it match by match as he gets stronger mentally, less immature, and far more focused – leading to devastating displays.

So many things have changed under Steven Gerrard, and it’s an absolute delight to see it – but Morelos going from a petulant wee boy into a grown man and a lethal striker overnight is truly exceptional to witness.

£20M please or don’t pick up the phone.

  1. It seems like he's finally enjoying, his football here. I wouldn't even consider selling him, for at the very least, a season. I also feel he's got wise to the dirty tactics and physicality, of the Scottish game. That 2nd goal, he reminded me of Gazza, arms out stretched, making space for himself. I've been his biggest critic in the past, but am glad, he's proven me wrong.

  2. I want 50 now never mind 20👅
But i want him to sign a new contract and stay🏆

    LETS GO WATP 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

  3. Any team with a plastic pitch shouldn't be allowed in the top division from next season on.
Just another example of why we're regarded as a mickey mouse league.

  4. I wouldnt sell him for at least another year or two.
