Is latest Ibrox transfer a mistake?

With today’s news that out of favour Lee Hodson is set to move to St Mirren on a season long loan, we have to wonder… why?

No, not that he’s on the move – we accept the guy isn’t part of Steven Gerrard’s plans and he needs to move on; but this is Rangers doing Alan Stubbs, Mr “I Won’t Sell Scott Allan to Rangers at any cost” a bit of a favour by giving him an international player for nothing.

Stubbs has done nothing but been an obstacle to Rangers – our rivalry with Hibs in the Championship and the toxicity surrounding it mean frankly we shouldn’t be doing them or him any favours at all, yet here we are giving him and his new team a very fine player at no cost.

Many reading this might think ‘don’t complain, we’re finally getting shot of more dead wood’, and they’d have a fair point.

But frankly we’d rather keep Hodson than do Stubbs a turn.

Call it petty, vindictive, whatever you want but we owe Stubbs nothing and he did little during the past 3-6 years beyond hostility towards us, and while we know he and Steven Gerrard are on good terms, we just find this deal a little disappointing.

The player deserves to play, we accept that. But we’d rather it wasn’t for someone or a club who have an axe to grind with ours.

  1. If you are right about the player then surely some value in him being in the shop window whilst maybe taking points off our true opponents. He won't play against us. Not keen on Stubbs either but………

  2. I'd give that big mouthed tosser less than zero … who on earth is making the decisions at Ibrox, personally I'm still disgusted at how Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace were treated.

    • Agree with you man!

      They did zilch wrong.

All they pretty much said to murty was that it was fuckin unacceptable for Rangers to be losing 4-0/5-0 to Celtic and Murty went an spat the Dummy.

  3. I am not entirely comfortable with the proffered reference that Lee Hodson is 'dead wood'.
Although never destined to create a huge career in a Rangers jersey, he has applied himself with dignity whenever called upon, with little controversy.
I, for one, would wish him all the best wherever he ends up.

  4. Have to agree – I have no problem with St Mirren, who I have a soft spot for, but would only let a player go to Alan Stubbs when he is "at a bigger club", by which I mean if he is managing Man Utd, Barca or Real Madrid!!

Would be happier if we lent players to St Mirren's competitors like Livingston, Dundee etc. Just until Stubbs gets sacked, you understand😂

  5. In my humble opinion the Buddies would be doing us a failure by taking Hodson off our hands temporarily; we have no use for him.

  6. Stubbs won’t be there by xmas. But it’s time we started making new ally’s with other clubs, we’ve been doing the same with livinnstone as well. Got to look at the bigger long term picture

  7. let the player go, what's in the past should stay there, he has no chance of get game time and in fact any young player we have could be pushed further into the first team squad for the future in that position.

  8. All players must be at a level to start games anywhere anytime and stake a claim for a start. If players there are not at that level (aka Hodson & Halliday) then they must be replaced. ‘Squad’ players is abthing if the past.

We need a 20 man squad of starters. This is Glasgow Rangers and we fight on all fronts.

  9. Lee Hodson has always given his best whenever he was picked to play in the team. He isn't good enough to be part of the current team, but nobody can blame him for jumping at the chance to come to rangers when a previous rangers manager wanted to sign him. Unlike some of our previous players, Hodson never hid and always tried. I have no problem with him going to St Mirren, he deserves the chance to resurrect his career and I wish him well. Stubbs being manager at St Mirren is an irrelevance.

  10. Fuck it guys. Hodson might find playing in paisley easier for him regards family life. We are bigger than that wank Stubbs. Watp

  11. Your absalutely right. You are being petty and vendictive. St Mirren are no threat to us and if we can help them potentially take some points off teams that are then we'd be mad not to do it just cos Stubbs is a dick.
Presumably they'll be paying a big part of his wages, and Hodson can play regularly and hopefully set up a move out of Ibrox at the end of the season so positive all round on this one.

  12. Hodson to St Mirren is currently what's best for RANGERS given there are no other offers. That's ALL that matters!!!

  13. Hodson never will be Rangers class, I think the jersey was far to heavy for him. I wish him luck all the same and hopefully he can assist St Mirren in taking points from other teams this season. God know how and why Halliday is still there, he is rotten and being carried by better players round about him. His marking was shocking that led up to a world class save from Foderingham! I cringe still when I hear his name read out, get rid! And please spare me that he is a "Rangers man" or "one of our own",, so am I, but you wouldn't want me on the park either!

  14. Sending Him to St Mirren
    …Massive Mistake
Why are we Helping Stubbs? 🤔
    …He's a Fckin Wanker!

    Id Rather Send him to
    Dundee, St Johnst,M'Well, Livy, Partick
    Etc
