Gerrard confirms no interest in huge Rangers target

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has again dismissed the notion of Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke as a possible target.

We reported on the site weeks ago that he was among six players the boss wasn’t interested in, and now he has formally revealed there’s no interest in the forward at all.

Asked about the story, he dismissed it as ‘just speculation’ at today’s presser, and if the young attacker now arrives, it would be one hell of a turnaround.

Rangers are still in the market for a new striker, with Josh Windass having left and the lack of options up front something of an issue, but it appears Gerrard’s ex-team mate won’t be the solution if today’s testimony is anything to go by.

Coupled on top of Gerrard’s denial about interest in any Bosnian players, we are intrigued by who the final piece of the attacking jigsaw could be, as well as that last defender Rangers seek.

  1. Defo think were at least 1 striker short, but I have faith in the gaffer to produce as he's not let us down so far with his signings, roll on Sunday 🇬🇧

  2. I like the way Rangers are heading and I am looking forward to the song simply the best being belted out at games

  3. Let's hope there is one. Lack of strikers is a major concern even before we sold 18 goal Windass. I also have concerns about Sadiq. If there was anything about him and he was doing it in training we would have seen more of him. I worry that Gerrard is not impressed with what he has seen so far.

  4. Purely speculation doesn't mean he's not interested. If solanke is available then I'm sure Stevie will bring him in.

  5. Rob:- only reason he hasn’t played more or from the start is because he’s not 100% fit. SG has previously said he’s well impressed with Sadiq. This lad will cause major problems for defences all season long. He has strength , pace and he’s no push over , have a look on you tube. I’d give it another game or 2 and you’ll be seeing plenty more of the big fella

    1. I get that Paul. He is a young fit guy and has been here for about 4 weeks. That's probably as much training as the rest of the team had before they went into the Shkupi game. Why is he not fit if that's the case? If he was shining at training and banging in goals for fun he'd be getting game time even if he was just 80% fit. Just doesn't smell right to me but I hope he proves me wrong.

  6. Completely agree with the comment above. Not sure what this site’s obsession is with apparently insisting that a dismissive “speculation” comment in a presser is somehow representative of unquestionable non-interest in a player. Assuming Gerrard wants to keep his cards close to his chest - which is entirely reasonable - why would he do anything other than dismiss stories as speculation

    1. Not his approach when the Umar Sadiq story surfaced. Admitted interest early on. We’ve followed his comments closely and when he doesn’t show interest, it means he isn’t interested.

    2. I still struggle to believe it’s as black and white as you make out. How could he not be interested in Solanke? If I remember correctly he also dismissed Harry Wilson as “speculation” but for me it’s reasonable to assume that it was the decision of either the player himself, or Liverpool, to not come to Rangers. Ryan Kent, whilst welcome, is first choice over the two in no one’s book

  7. Same thoughts as Steve. Pure speculation doesn't mean he is denying interest, it could well mean he is avoiding confirming or denying. Also, SG said Sadiq wasnt ready to play when he arrived and would need some time to get his fitness up to speed. We definitely do need another striker though.

  8. Id like to see lafferty and 1 other. we've struggled with depth and injuries especially defensively which is now sorted but we need quality options.

  9. Hope we sign Solanke or Abraham 👍
    But to be honest,
    ...We need a permanent CF

Wudnt mind Allan bangin in 500k for Laff.

  10. Yes, I agree... number one option for me would be big Lafferty, he would run that mhobs defence ragged.
