Deadline Day roundup – who left and who stayed at Ibrox?

England’s transfer window slammed shut yesterday evening, and this significantly affected Rangers whom a glut of business was on the cards with teams south of the border before they ran out of time.

Ibrox Noise takes you through the main deals on the cards, and the ones that actually went through;

Declan John:

Stunned us all by signing for Swansea permanently. This had been reported as a loan, but it ended up a three year deal, and we have to say the board made a pig’s ear of it, selling an international left back for what has been alleged as a modest sub-£1M fee. Some claim £800,000, which for a 23-year old Welsh rising star is frankly ludicrous. Could and should have got well over double that. Poor.

Josh Windass:

Left for Wigan on a deadline day move for another pretty modest fee, which has been reported as £2.5M. For an English attacker with an outstanding goal record, this could have been a lot higher as well – £5M seemed more appropriate, but Wigan only had to pay minimal amount really – Gerrard says the board were happy, and in fairness we did only pay £50K for him. Windass wanted to be the striker. Gerrard wasn’t interested. So both parties were happy to part ways.

Lee Hodson:

Tightly linked with Canuck side Montreal Impact, including reportedly flying out for a medical, but he was at Wednesday’s training session so we have huge doubt about this story having much truth at all. Hodson, as far as we can tell, remains a Rangers player.

Jak Alnwick:

Despite allegations he didn’t get on the bus for Maribor amidst links with Bristol, the former Port Vale man remains a Rangers player and most likely Rangers’ number two, albeit Wes Foderingham was deputy for Maribor.

Wes Foderingham:

Deadline day links with Blackburn didn’t materialise into anything, and the 27-year old stopper, as mentioned, filled in as deputy last night. We imagine he will be back in reserves in due course though.

James Tavernier:

Simply put Wes Brom failed with a £3M bid – which shows what the board values the club captain at. Led the side out last night and put in a storming shift, Tavernier has been linked with departure since he joined in truth – but it appears he’s an integral part of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers. Whether some fans like it or not.

And that’s about the lot. Rangers’ own window remains open for some time yet (1st September), and more business could yet be done. We’ll see.

  1. DJ went for 800k thats a steal he was worth 2-3 bad bit of business for Rangers that deal🤠

Great result lastnight not worried about the oldfirm this time round

    LETS GO WATP 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

  2. Gutted that Hodson, Haliday and Wes didn't go. Why on earth do we have Halliday over Docherty i will never understand.
Morelos put in a great shift last night but he still makes the same mistakes time after time. off side position, and retaliating against other teams defenders. I would prefer to have domonic solanke all day long.
Umar Sadiq's appearance wasn't very impressive had the ball taken off him mid field and moved around like a centipede with hot feet.

  3. Mentreal Impact signed bacary sagna so I'm guessing they "went another direction" so hodson is still a ger … for now.

  4. Let’s have a little faith in the manager. And actually enjoy our football. Last night was so good in many ways, yes there was a few bad moments (the should have been goal) and it took a fantastic goal for them to score. All this against a team that most people had wrote us off again. Maybe a little faith that the manager is doing the right things… even Walter signed a few suffers in both spells…

  5. DJ is a Welsh International and capable so we should have demanded £3M or he’d stay. Not good business.
£2.5M + for Windass is good business given he’s no longer a boy in the game and for me can’t bring himself to a good level if not playing where he wants to play.

We need a squad of players that will not only provide cover for injuries/suspensions etc but will push for starting spots, keep those in the team on their toes. In that respect, Halliday & Hodson are nowhere near good enough and should go. We should tell them they are training with the academy or accept a termination of current contract. They might just go for that and see them pocket 100% of their sign on fee or increased wages as a free agent.

I’d sell Wes for the only reason being there could be a decent fee to be had. Alnwick is inferior to Wes but unlikely to command a fee. Either or, it doesn’t much matter.

Let’s hope the Windass & DJ money can top up the budget for a better striker or at least provide funds to refurb Ibrox or Auchenhowie. The stadium is looking pretty tired and in need of a spruce up…everywhere.

  6. Good business getting John off our books. 1 salary less at left back. He would not get back into team. And remember we still have Lee Wallace receiving wages.
Good business getting rid of Windass. We weren’t in love with him.
We still have guys to unload. Forget fee, get them off payroll.

  7. Agree with Alan Calder get those that can't make it off payroll but why has know one mentioned rossiter he is a joke I think if you look at him he gets injured get rid a drain on the wages

  8. The team shit the bed on Declan John. The guy will go one to be resold for many more millions. Stupid Stupid move.

  9. 1. Gutted to see John Leave!
    Wanted him to Stay!
…but at The very least we should have demanded more 💰 for him

    2. Glad Windass is gone but again felt like we should have gotten a little more 💰 for him

    3. I like Hodson, He just isnt the Level of Rangers
…He either needs to be around Lg1 in England or if staying North …maybe a team like Ross County/Hamilton/Partick Thistle

    4. He Better not get Sold!
He Better not get Shoved out on Loan!
He is a far better keeper than Wes
And for me, Hes AMs No.2
…Sell Foderingham if we need a GK gone

    5. Delighted Tav is still at the club! 😃…as for a fee think we should be saying around £5-6 million minimum!

**Still need Rid of Permanently :

Halliday, Herrera, Pena, Hodson, Dodoo, Rossiter, Dorrans(Maybe)

..so maybe bank another couple of million if we can get rid of them 🤔
