An unwanted defensive Thursday headache for Stevie Ger

Rangers face a small worry for Thursday’s play off versus FC UFA with a small injury concern over Connor Goldson (who suffered a minor hip knock at Rugby Park) while Nikola Katic himself sustained a head knock in a fair but unfortunate clash which left him sodden with crimson and bandaged up.

The key issue is the complete lack of cover for either of these two should one or both suffer anything else come the UEL clash with the Russians, given the only reliable senior defenders at Ibrox are the aforementioned Goldson and Katic.

Ross McCrorie and Jon Flanagan are literally the only other options to use at centre half beyond making Andy Halliday play there, and this situation is slightly concerning for Stevie Gerrard who has seen his summer defensive acquisitions dry up after the flurry of signings from Brighton and Slaven Balupo.

Rangers’ manager has certainly tried to bring in more bodies, with Steven Caulker, Jake Cooper, Jack Hendry, Jack Simpson, Gareth McAuley and a host of other names linked, but sadly getting another body in there has proven tough to do and Rangers’ reliance on Goldson and Katic was slightly exposed on Sunday when both took said small injuries.

Hopefully nothing will materialise on Thursday to risk either of them, and even more hopefully someone else will come in ASAP to provide that badly-needed cover, but for now, it’s a slightly perilous situation.
