Ahead of Celtic and it’s not even September? SPL tide threatens to swing…

It’s not terribly often we talk about Celtic on here. This is a Rangers site for Rangers fans and we talk about our club.

But today’s result at Tynecastle involving a pretty convincing defeat of Celtic by an infinitely superior Hearts side has thrown up so many talking points that we really have to cover it.

This was an important afternoon for sure – this was Celtic’s opportunity to take on a traditionally top-six place side on their own patch and continue to dominate as they have done for three+ seasons.

What happened was an energetic Hearts side completely outplayed them and deservedly won. With a victory, Rangers tomorrow will be above Celtic in the table for the first time since 2011/2012.

This Celtic team is not half as good as it thinks, or thought it is. It’s had the easy edge over abysmal Rangers teams of the recent past, but against a Hearts side with a half decent striker, it had no answer and was second best all over the pitch.

Add to this their manager Rodgers’ claims of quitting if his ambitions aren’t met, and the tide could, just could be turning in Rangers’ favour.

Steven Gerrard has made a stunning start to life in Govan – here’s a comparison:

10 man Rangers went to the second best team in Scotland, completely outplayed them and should have won but for a complete daylight robbery in the final two minutes.

11 men Celtic could barely muster a shot on target at the fifth-placed Hearts (who lost their captain, incidentally) and were convincingly beaten. An interesting afternoon for sure.

Meanwhile Lafferty’s finish only cemented the importance of signing this lad again. He wants to come, we know this. He wants home, and outside the Old Firm (and maybe including?) he’s the best striker in the SPL. His value probably just doubled following that goal, but the reality is Rangers need him, and we have to pay for him.

Meanwhile we can be relieved we did not sign Jack Hendry from Dundee – Celtic’s defence was exposed repeatedly, and he was a class below Goldson and Katic. He was signed from Dundee and that’s about the level he looked.

But most importantly, we now know this Celtic team is there for the taking. They ain’t great, their manager ain’t happy, they’re leaking goals, and they’re absolute guff in Europe.

This is a real chance for the SPL to be wide open – Rangers have to take advantage of this.

  1. We haven't beaten St Mirren yet. Calm down, one slip from Celtic might be enough for the board to spend and go miles away from us again. I'm not getting carried away, we haven't even won three points in the league yet.

    • They will be waiting to see if they get in the champions league group stages again before they spend money and by the looks of things that aint going to happen.
Listening to the spurs manager today I thought his interview would provide some interesting reading for some managers ie Brenda, Spurs manager said he is happy to go with the same team as last year as that team went well, we had to buy new players so if Brenda is shouting about not being backed is he worried about us🤔🙊🙈

      Brendas last season

      LETS GO WATP 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

    • If we cant even beat St Mirren at Home then it will be a Fkn Disgrace and we don't deserve to be in the title Race! 👎⚽

    • Lets concentrate on oor team and puttin' a sock into that big mouthed fud Stubbs… on the Lafferty front a concur wae BB and Stevie … get him signed NOW… what is with the delay ?

    • Was wondering if we were just leaving him at Herts to score against Celtic. He'll be on the plane to Slovenia.

  2. The people who said Lafferty is not good enough…..how many of those people now will want Big Laff to sign ? Get it done and dusted, pay what he's worth, the guy would be a legend

  3. Last season we couldn't take advantage of their slip ups…another thing for Stevie G to put right tomorrow! Can't wait for the atmosphere tomorrow! – get Lafferty signed NOW!

  4. It is ours i can smell it they are buying young lads mugs they are they may not win anything this season, bring it on…………

  5. Every football team peaks. Then comes the trough and at the ones we hate to the mention I think that might be starting to happen. They spent 9 million on one player. More than we spent in total so far by one million on an attacking midfield player. They rate …that's right RATE Boyata. They have a shit right back in Lustig who every year gets worse and have a keeper who only ever really turns up against Rangers. Brown is an ageing thug who is successful by cheating behind the refs back and winding players up, by throwing in awful challenges and miraculously getting away with them. There is a team that thinks it is invincible, untouchable….problem is their board doesnt care. The coffer size increases every year. The profit is waaaay more to their board than the success of the club. Their fans call us blind, unaware of our board and their dealings, that we need to wake up. Laughable. If they wanted they could compete with EPL teams and attempt a euro charge. Spend some cash. They won't. Great result from Hearts. Now is OUR time, we are on the rise and WE are coming….#letsgo #stevengerrard

  6. I don't particularly want Lafferty back at Ibrox but his strike today was fantastic and I wonder if his slow walk around the pitch acknowledging the Hearts fans at the end was his farewell to them?

  7. Come on guys lets get carried away we deserve it!

    Above celtic the mora yesss
    Cant wait for parkheed

  8. Leave big Laff where he is he help us win league😉

    LETS GO WATP 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

  9. Yes I agree give Hearts 1M and him from Gorgie too the other "G" Govan. I thought I was the only one that thought Brown is a thug. The miracle is that he has not been banned Sine Die. We might now have the players to take care of his thuggery. Like all bullies he cries foul when someone tackles him.

    • Did you see Brown today? Was fouled three times in quick succession, went down and lashed out with his foot as he fell. He got a free kick. Not a red card. He also did one of his sly moves, watches where the player is running then throws himself and his elbow into him claiming he didn't see him.
I can't wait for Coulibaly to size him up, slow down as he goes for the ball to let Brown get there first, then half him!!

As for Lafferty, decent strike, doesn't make him good enough and he remains a traitor. Have faith in the manager and board to find someone younger and better. Middleton better on wing, Morelos better up front

  10. I must agree with stuart. However we must be cautious and give our new signings time to bed in properly if as we speculate their is disharmony brewing in parkhead we must add to it when we meet for the first time in September so a big shout out to stevie and the boys for the season and the europa cup qualifier in Slovenia. One point I would like to raise for all those who think we should not have got rid of josh windass he was given 2 years to prove himself he hasn't lived up to promise so I am with stevie it was time for him to move on to a league more suitable to his level wich is championship as for his dad's comments he is better keeping his comments to himself we do need another striker I would look for another eastern European the market seems to be more forgiving than our own and I would bring solake if we get the chance I do trust strevie
and Gary and the rest of the team and us fans must get behind them and become the twelfth man on the pitch in every match .

  11. So…

Celtic have come off the back of a european match, not really strengthened, but they will..They have strong finances, didn't play a full strength team today either.
Our home form was terrible last season, so we need to get off to a strong start & win tomorrow. Celtic raise their game against us, we don't seem to match that.
Were we past the transfer window & around xmas then I could see the sense in the optimism, but it's only game two…They will win the league, hopefully they are stopped from another treble, but we are a work in progress & ideally we aim for a strong second & win a cup.
I hope you are right, but can't see it!

    • Timothy we will win the league,we will beat you at parkheed, the only treble will be ours, brendas last season

      LETS GO WATP 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

  12. Lafferty's scored against the bheggars who maybe have had a European hangover, but if they go out next week and then we beat them,THEN we can start to shout, just take it easy bears.

  13. Agree with Joe we haven't played still mircea yet yes calm down folks we had all this last season when we got within 6 points
Let's just take things a game at a time and concentrate on our team and stuff what they are doing

  14. All a bit premature lads. Rangers haven't actually won a league game this season yet. Still along way to go, and I for one wouldn't put money on 55 yet.

    • If you want to get paid you would, as long odds = bigger payday. And yeah, it's early, but there is a serious chink in the armor of Celtic. It's ripe for the picking. I keep hearing that Celtic is due to get really really strong any day now… And what follows is the signing of Izaguirre…. Guy wouldn't even get a game at Ibrox these days. The "gulf in class" isn't as wide as the media continues to say it is. Does this mean we're assured 55? Of course not. The players still have to do the job, but from a pure talent perspective, Rangers to a player in comparison, are more than capable of seeing off Celtic. Now, they just need to assert themselves and grab the opportunity with both hands.

  15. I think if they continue to drop points at teams like Hearts/Killie etc then we are in with a chance but I think we should take it easy, Focus and get some wins under our belt ⚽💪

    Also, After that display

How can we not sign Lafferty?!
The guy wants to come Home!

I know the Guy is 30 and out of contract or whatever but I would just give Hearts the £1m for his goals against Celtic Alone.

And To be Honest, I think even at £1mill…it would still be a bargain!

And just think say we paid £1m and wd got 3-4 years out of him, thats a little over 300k a year
    …Hardly Breaking the Bank? 🤔

And Hes a Proven SPL Goalscorer

And he managed 19 in a poor Hearts Side! So imagine how many he would score with teammates like Arfield, Candeias etc 😀💪⚽

  16. Watched the match today and am just happy hearts knocked back our 1st offer and today's result should make us even more hungry for tomorrow s game and finally get ahead of Them and kick on for the rest season….its coming home 55

Would also just like to wish Christophe Berra a speedy recovery… watp helicopter 2005

  17. As soon as we win the league, they will be back, in their traditional role. 2nd, behind us. The true order of things, will be restored. Time for us, to gloat. It's coming.

  18. No one wants to play for them there big defender wants out i hope they keep him and get nothing for him he will upset the players going be a good watch just maybe BR will move on…bring it on
