Rangers’ scheduling curiosity – deliberate?

Rangers’ second round qualifying match in the Europa League on the 26th of July is confirmed as being against Croatians Osijek, first leg being in Eastern Croatia on Thursday.

Curiously though Rangers also have a friendly scheduled for the Sunday afterwards, just three days later, making us wonder if such tight scheduling was intentional.

Rangers’ pre-season fixtures have certainly been intriguingly planned timed – the Bury friendly was decently scheduled on the 6th of this month to give Steven Gerrard’s men a six-day preparation for the first leg v Shkupi, but this time around Rangers will face three matches in eleven days and we do wonder if that was deliberate.

Rangers travel to Croatia on Wednesday for leg one on the Thursday, before coming home and preparing for the Sunday hosting of Wigan, before Osijek then arrive in Govan only a few days later.

It’s certainly a curious schedule – some might argue the tightness could work in Rangers’ favour, by keeping them fit, on their toes, and match sharp, while others may equally have a point thinking that three big matches, two of which are critical, in pre-season over the course of eight days is a touch on the tricky side.

Either way, hopefully the new players will be available by then plus some further additions and we’ll have the squad to cope.

  1. Do you always have a negative thought,? just let Gerrard get on with the show, I'm sure we will be alright, he is a breath of fresh air , I am sick to death of the Souness example, Gerrard has not no way as much money to spend, also Souness was sacked after Rangers many times , in Steven I trust

    • You are so right!!! Can we cut the negativity. Clearly, the Wigan match was scheduled to fall between the 2 Europa League fixtures. Unlike IN, Gerrad (positively) banked on us getting through the 1st qualifying round, with the dates for the 2nd round known weeks ago.

  2. Well only 11 players will play 60-90 minutes in the Euro match. Rest of the squad need to be fit too.

  3. Be great scheduling if we win the games and shit planning if we loose.

WINNING FOOTBALL MATCHES IS ALL THAT MATTERS ANYTIME.

  4. its about getting game time for the whole squad. also gives him a chance to play some youngster

  5. I definitely think it was deliberate. Gotta get as sharp as we can and bedded in as quickly as possible. It can't hurt to have a tune-up match in between Euro legs. Based on how the first leg goes, it will give them a chance to plan their game for the return leg. Also a chance for fringe guys to get their fitness up too. SPL season is rapidly approaching and we need to find our partnerships on the pitch asap.

  6. Just Gotta Take each Game as it comes
And keep on Winning even if that means Winning Ugly 😫👍⚽

  7. Got to trust in our management & board. Like Dave King or not, one thing is sure, the man is not, an idiot. Smart businessman, some say his past is shady, in SA. I don't know about all that. But I do, think he's doing a job for us. Stood up to the SFA and fans just need to be patient. It's going to be a long job, to rid ourselves of the mess, Murray the scumbag, got us into. I would never, be able to swallow him, coming BACK to our club, no matter how much money, the scumbag has.
