Predicted XI v Bury – five summer signings start

Tonight the world finally gets to see Steven Gerrard’s Rangers in action at our home.

English side Bury come up north to visit Govan in the first ‘serious’ match of Gerrard’s reign, off the back of a promising Rangers win over Welsh giants TNS.

Connor Goldson yesterday dropped a bit of a hint in his presser that Gerrard was likely to play a back four, given he mentioned it in priority before conceding the lads had also tried a three, but the selection of the four against Scott Ruscoe’s men for both halves lent itself strongly to the notion that will be Stevie Ger’s priority.

So what shape and selection tonight?

One thing is clear; every Rangers fan around is feverishly excited about this friendly – don’t read anything into the notion that ‘it’s only a friendly’ and ‘the result doesn’t matter’ – the fact us fans are as excited as we are about a friendly against a lowly League 2 English side (no disrespect to the honourable Bury intended) suggests there will be, rightly or wrongly, a sense of judging tonight.

We can’t help it, it’s our team, and a new era – if the result didn’t matter, it would be a contradiction to be excited to ‘see how the players do’.

So, with that in mind, Gerrard is likely to deploy a 4-3-3 cum 4-4-2 cum 4-4-1-1 and our projection of the starting XI is thus:

Allan McGregor; Jon Flanagan, Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Declan John; Greg Docherty, Ross McCrorie, Scott Arfield; Josh Windass, Alfredo Morelos and Daniel Candeias.

Naturally we’ll find out prior to kick off how close this was, but the XI who take the Hallowed Turf will certainly be raring to go and prove their worth.

    Ketic Goldson Flanagan
    Tavi. John.

    McCorie

    Arfield. Middleton

    Morelos Windass

No messing about defend as a unit attack like a Roman Legion!!

  2. Tav ahead of Flanagan. Flanagan might start when we use a back 3 and are expecting to be on the back foot for long periods during games but against the Macedonians we need to attack so to prepare for that game we need to go with a back 4 and attack them on the wings.

  3. No Murphy? No Tav?
Anyone else remember what it was like to have genuine competition for places?
Loving it. Even our backup wingers, Middleton and Atakayi, are quality. Still need another striker, though

  4. Just to make things better Umar Sadiq is in Glasgow having a medical so hopefully thats over the line by KO tonight and makes him eligible for next Thursday.
Dom Solamke Stevies number 1 target is looking like a very strong possibility but not till August. He would melt the SPL!!
Ben Woodburn, Harry Wilson are 2 other possible signings no matter what pish our media are saying Stevie likes them both? Same again with them August.
Wilson would piss them off so hope that happens.
Another defender and an marque singing and were ready for the assault!!

  5. Look guys it's a friendly let's get a look at the new kids on the block we all know what tavaneir can do why risk injury before we start look what happened to rossiter in the closed doors mach I'd rather preserve our best eleven for the game against the macedonians we have the prospects of some good loan signings so I'd say in all things are looking up no matter what anyone in the biased media say pundits are men who have nothing better to do with their time apart from critsize and gloat when things go righto for their team folk like Sutton and co and the bias s.f.a let's getc behind stevie and the boys at the game to nite and make all our players welcome be it their first time or returnees and let's wave good bye tof those who could cut the mustard.
