How Thursday’s team gave THIS clue about key Gerrard player decision

There were many things to watch out for when Rangers’ XI was confirmed for Thursday night’s clash with Shkupi, but of even more interest was the bench.

And if the choices for the bench are anything to go by, Wes Foderingham has been chosen by Steven Gerrard as the deputy who will make way and Jak Alnwick, last season’s number two, will continue on in that role.

For the former number one to fail to make the bench for such an important clash illustrates everything Steven Gerrard thinks of him.

The ex-Swindon man has divided the Rangers support with a portion believing he was our best player the past two seasons while others didn’t think him close to being good enough – it has created a lot of arguments over the period since he joined.

But Jak Alnwick has really only impressed when given a chance between the sticks, and essentially got the whole split to himself last season – it appears he did enough to impress Gerrard and is likely to continue in the role of deputy stopper for the foreseeable future.

Stevie Ger did admit one of these goalkeepers (Foderingham, McCrorie, Alnwick) would not be happy and it would appear it’s Wes who drew the short straw.

  1. Foderingham is too good a keeper to be no2 at Rangers or any club outside the EPL. Alnwick is a very good back up and considering shaggers age he'll think he's got a better chance for playing time this season.

We should make good money for Foderingham which I'm sure influenced SG's decision. Either way we are good for goalies.

  2. what l seen with Jak end of last season l was impressed, not many have a bad word to say against him if any, it really is time for Fod to go

  3. I think it comes down to this..

Wes is a better goalie than Jak but Jak is reliable enough to be a number 2.

So what's the best business decision and footballing decision (In terms of getting most for our money without affecting the team too much.)

Selling Jak or selling Wes? Selling Wes all day albeit he's a better keeper.

I agree with the play and the money could buy us another striker or centre half. We are fortunate to have 3 decent keepers good luck to Wes.

    • This is spot on. When Jak got game time early on, he looked bloody awful – a fact that seems to have been forgotten. At the end of last season, he looked a capable deputy. If this allows us to make decent money on Wes, it's a good decision. What I'll never understand is the constant slagging of Wes from this site – based on the evaluations here, he is worthless. We can't say he's crap and then demand a good fee……

  4. Glad its Wes and not Jak
But Jak is a Better Keeper All Day Long! 👐

    1. Sell Foderingham
    2. Have Jak as No.2 to Allan
    3. Give RobbieM a Wee Go nxt Season

    4. When AM retires in 2-3yrs,
    Make Jak No.1, Robbie No.2
And keep him at the club to Mentor Robbie 🤔
