Gerrard signing admits concerns over summer window additions…

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor has admitted the squad is a little thin with regards defenders and he believes more are needed.

Speaking on the return from the Malaga camp, McGregor confessed the trip had been productive and a good bonding exercise, but he urged caution over the number of defensive additions.

He said:

“I think it’s important for all the goalkeepers (having a good defence) but I think, personally, I would rather have a few more (defenders) but it’s just the way it is that the European games come quite early so just need to take it in your stride and deal with it.”

He is right of course – Rangers have only two recognised centre backs on the role sheet in Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson, with Fabio Cardoso on the verge of an exit and Bruno Alves effectively off to Parma, and frankly that’s not enough.

It’s an area Rangers remain thin in, and while we wouldn’t say we’re worried, it’s one to keep an eye on. Hopefully Steven Gerrard and the team are continuing to work on getting CBs in.

    • Hi Neil, no he isn't. At least, not any more because he's just no good at it. He's a DM.

  1. I’m in agreement we need more defenders and strikers for that matter, just one question, who has Cardoso been linked with, I’ve not seen anyone showing any interest in him, loan deal or otherwise🤔

  2. It is not just in defence that we should be concerned about the lack of depth and I am surprised that Gerrard took the job if he was not guaranteed funds to bring in at least three or four more top players that could walk straight into the first team. One look at the players that participated in the friendly yesterday and you can see that the starting line up was a mixture of youngsters and others that, quite frankly should be no where near Rangers. If Halliday and Hodson are to be viewed as players that will be part of the squad then we are kidding ourselves if we think we can wrestle the league from Celtic. The loss of Rossiter if he is badly injured also fills me with dread since other than the young lads, Docherty and McCrorie we are severely lacking in quality in that department as well, (yes I don't rate Jack and Dorrans). Then there is the attack where we are literally limited to Herrera and Morelos, (assuming of course that we don't sell Morelos)! I would like to see us sign a quality centre back, a top quality central midfield player and two strikers, (neither of who should be Cummings). With new investment pending, season ticket monies and new sponsorship monies surely Gerrard has been given the green light to bring in quality and not just on one year loans.

  3. Neil.
Young Ross as IN says lost playing at the back, but Flanagan certainly can play anywhere across the back. If big Bruno passes his medical and off to Parma that releases 28k a week for wages on someone else. Infact could probably pay 2 players with around that cash.
Wee Honda from Japan is aparently avalibile so hope were having a look at him….

  4. Short in cb and a front two. Might only have one striker by next week. Need another 4 signings really

  5. The transfer window is only 1 month old and 7 have come in. These things take time and we will have what we need by the time it closes!! This is just "quiet news day" reporting!!!

  6. Pretty sure Gerrard has been waiting to offload Alves to free up cash for two more CBs with his wages. If the stories are true about 2.6m offer for Morelos then Gerrard should chase them we are unlikely to get anyone near as good for that.

  7. That trecherous bastard goalkeeper scumbag should shut his trap. Makes me sick seeing him back at Gers.
