Gerrard drops huge hint about new signing – says it’s a big problem solved…

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has dropped a hint that he sees new signing Lassana Coulibaly as a ‘Scott Brown’ for Rangers.

While Rangers fans hardly have affinity with Celtic’s captain, we have reluctantly accepted his competence at his role, arguing long that Rangers lack a titan in midfield, ‘destroyer’ to really lead and give confidence to others.

Gerrard, speaking at his pre-Shkupi press conference alongside new signing Umar Sadiq, suggested Rangers now have exactly that.

He said:

“Coulibaly is a destroyer type midfielder, he is very different to what he have here. I have watched him numerous times and he breaks play up and keeps it simple. He will add a bit of power in the engine room for us.”

‘Destroyer type’ is the big giveaway – Gerrard suggesting Rangers now have an aggressive combative and strong powerhouse in the middle to answer the question of a lack of a ‘Scott Brown’.

Of course, what Greg Docherty and perhaps Ross McCrorie will think of Gerrard’s assertion that we lack that is another matter, but Rangers cannot have too many good options there.

  1. Both McCrorie and Docherty are young guys still learning the game and McCrorie in particular is more of a Stephen Gerard type. Young Rossiter, if he can just stay injury free, plays with more skill and could be deployed further forward. Jack and Dorrans still have it all to prove after a year on the sidelines through injury and suspension. Coulibaly sound like the perfect addition to the squad!

  2. Hope he turns out well and there’s an option to buy.
Is this an indication that SG will be playing with two holding mids? If we now have Coulibaly, Rossiter, McCrorie, Jack and Docherty for these two starting slots?

  3. scott brown getting player of the year last year says a heck of a lot about
the state of scottish foitball last year, btw.

  4. I am looking foward to seeing Coulibaly line up for us

But I dont think he is our answer to Scott Brown

I dont think hes Strong Enough or Agressive Enough
I dont think he will be able to provide that Midfield General we have been looking for the past 6yrs at least

    …Just an Opinion 🤔
