Could Steven Gerrard make a major statement?

Ex-Rangers captain, MBE Steven Davis is
reported to be interesting Rangers for a surprise return to his beloved Ibrox
club. He was certainly brought up in Ballymena as a dyed-in-the-wool Rangers
fan, but whether he would want to give up playing in the Premier League on a
big money deal is a different matter altogether.
Last season his game-time in the starting X1
was limited by both injuries and other players being picked to start over their
team captain, but he still managed to play on 25 occasions.
Everything will depend on whether their
manager Mark Hughes wants to hold on to his 33-year-old midfield player to
stay and fight for his place. Will Mark prefer to move him on to make room for Stuart
Armstrong, his new £7M signing from Celtic, who will obviously become a
sure-fire starter for the St Mary’s club.
If Mark Hughes is willing to be kind to Davis and let him join
Stevie G’s new revolution at Rangers for
free
, then signing him as next season’s captain would be deemed a good
move.
If a significant transfer fee is involved, Ibrox Noise
would say no to bringing a 33-year-old back to the club. A minimal one might be tolerable.
The positive side of bringing him home, is
that his talent, knowledge and experience of many years playing at the top
level, could help Rangers catch up with our Old Firm rivals.
The negative could be that as he has got older,
injuries can take a lot longer to heal, and he doesn’t have the same physical
attributes that some of Rangers’ other taller targets possess.
Let’s leave it to our contributors of Ibrox
Noise, to let us know how they would vote.

  2. His age isnt an issue. Good 2 or 3 years left. Technical, winning mentality and good enough to make that ugly bloke from the east end look amateur.

  3. as a rangers fan myself who went to his school etc I would love him back.
