Two confirmed departures, two pending; Ibrox exodus continues

Rangers’ summer frenzy is well and truly underway with the confirmed departures of David Bates to Hamburg and Sean Goss back to his parent club of QPR, with plenty more set to follow them both out the exit door.

Michael O’Halloran is lobbying for a move to Motherwell, and it is unlikely the winger will remain in Govan if Rangers can recoup a fee for him. Kenny Miller’s contract has expired and unless new manager Steven Gerrard overrules the previous decision on him, the veteran striker has played his last game for Rangers. Lee Wallace’s future is uncertain, and he has a deal till next summer, but with upcoming surgery still to carry out the prognosis for his chances at Ibrox are uncertain at best and bleak at worst.

Negotiations over Jason Cummings are said to be static and little has been heard about moving that deal forward – the striker is technically back to Forest as their employee, and his competitor for the Ibrox striker jersey Alfredo Morelos is the target for a bunch of clubs with Turkish cracks Besiktas looking for his services.

Russell Martin has, it appears, returned to Norwich at the end of his loan and knew that writing was on the wall some weeks ago when he said:

“I might not be back here next season.”

We know for sure that Goss and Bates are gone, but we are unlikely to get confirmation officially on Martin or Miller (albeit we got none for Bates either) – best we will get is posts from team mates like Josh Windass wishing Miller all the best.

It is to be a summer of much upheaval.
