Steven Gerrard has a BIG decision to make...

We at Ibrox Noise have never been big fans of Wes. I personally have been saying for almost three seasons now that Wes Foderingham at only 6’1” is too small a goalkeeper to be a success in the SPL due to the type and style of football most teams choose to play in our top league.

He is certainly not as consistently good as he was, and especially since we returned to the Premiership. He has also gained a reputation for making some stupid mistakes this season. Jak Alnwick’s stunning display yesterday also vindicated our desire to have him between the sticks for now.

New Rangers manager 37-year-old Steven Gerrard will already be planning ahead for next season, and a new goalkeeper should be near the top of his agenda.

Hearts manager Craig Levein has conceded that his first team goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin is set to leave the club at the end of the season and has admitted that this will be a huge loss for the Edinburgh club after having such an impressive debut campaign.

The tall 6’ 3” Hearts 30-year-old stopper, Jon McLaughlin has impressed everybody with his outstanding displays against all the top sides. This would make him my favourite free transfer for Gerrard to sign. Jon has admitted that if offered the right deal, he could be talked into remaining in Scotland.

With his impressive 15 clean sheets in all competitions, we will have to move quickly to get him locked-in on a free pre-contract deal, as Jon’s one-year contract is set to expire in three weeks.

Levein said.

“When he does move on, he moves on with my best wishes and everybody else at Hearts because he’s been a great player to have around the dressing room and a superb goalkeeper on the field.”

The light blues are also in talks with ex-Rangers Allan McGregor over a surprise return to Ibrox, but at 36, perhaps a more sensible approach should be taken. He is a great shot stopper and a far better keeper than Wes, but his weakness is in dealing with cross balls and corners – again down to his only 6’ 0” size.

Both of these would significant upgrades over our current number one, though.
