The simple secret to beating Celtic

The simple secret to beating Celtic

Article by: Robbie, for Ibrox Noise

Well KO time is fast approaching and I am really looking forward to this one, I honestly believe we can hump them over 90 minutes; but I’m not going to kid myself, we’re not at a stage where we can win the title with our present crop of players.

This is my take on Sunday:

I always liked the way Walter set up, make us hard to beat and win the battle in the first 15/20 then push on from there. We all have our own team selection and formations, and I truly believe that playing them in 4-2-3-1 is our best formation, which is a good job for obvious reasons!!

Defence; Tavernier, Martin, Alves & John.

Full backs need to get forward I know but they must defend first & foremost.

CHs; they need to stop being caught with long balls, it’s not hard, one marks and one drops two yards, getting caught flat footed and level is schoolboy stuff.

Holding two; McCorie & Docherty.

Very simple this one, provides the bite and protects the defence.

Wide men; Murphy & Candeias.

They must get in behind and get EARLY balls in before they have time to set.

Number 10; Dorrans.

We all know he’s just wasted playing so deep.

Striker; Morelos.

Bullies every defence in the league and when he’s not wearing his slippers knows where the onion bag is, and promised his family he’s going to score! Let’s hope that comes to fruition (or 2!?)

Would like to throw a curveball on to our bench in the form of Glenn Middleton, just something different compared to our pedestrian subs!!

There will be plenty different takes than mine I know, as long as we all have a smile on our faces come Sunday night that will have been the correct formation & team selection.

  1. That's exactly how the team should line up. I've been saying it for weeks. – you have definitely been reading my posts! Lol however, after the Dundee game I expect miller to play not sure whose place he takes. And I expect Halliday to play (which I'm definitely not complaining about, he made such a difference when he came on).

  2. And when El Buffalo doesn't score, which l really don't think he will, and my personal opinion should start on the bench, he will deserve every bit of flak coming his way, when we were offered a lot of dosh there we should've bit the hand off for Morelos as we wont get offered it again

  3. play 2 fullbacks and let tav and john attack and defend higher up the pitch which n turn stops them getting caught at the back. it would force their wide players back or they would leave their fullbacks exposed. 442 i would start with miller/cummings up top as they seem to be big game players, morelos missed to many opportunities against them, and we cannot afford to miss these chances as the last game proved.

  4. Probably the selection i would want to see as well, however be prepared for Miller (Dorrans slot) and possibly Halliday (McCroie slot) playing with McCroie pairing up with Martin while Murty panics.

  5. Bewildered by this post and leaves me wondering if writers actually watch the games !
Firstly 4231 is killing us because we are constantly short in midfield battle and playing with two wingers and Windass as a 3 when all three are so inconsistent it's also easy to defend against which is why Celtic and others go with a 532 or 352 against us ! Also alves and Martin are shocking together with the later shocking period chs need to be mcrorie and alves only cos Bates is injured .midfield should be doc ,goss ,dorrans, murphyfloating from left to right .Miller 1st 45 with Morales then find of to wrap it up

    • Bit rough on Candieas, he works hard to defend Tavernier and still finds time to lead the league in assists.
I agree we are short in midfield, don't claim to know the answer, but Dorrans behind striker would offer more against Celtic than Windass and Halliday would offer more than Goss. I would fancy those three against Celtic
