What happened six years and five months ago at Ibrox?

Six years and five months ago something happened in the SPL that, at the time, was nothing extraordinary, but looking back on it, it is almost inexplicable that it took six years and five months to repeat itself.

In September 2011, Steven Davis won the SPL player of the month, in a Rangers side riding high at the top of the Premier League before things unravelled horrendously with Steven Naismith’s injury and then … enough said.

Until today, that was the last time a Rangers player won the SPL player of the month, even if they won some of them in the lower leagues during the Journey back to the top flight too. Not really the same.

But that it took 20 months following promotion for Rangers finally to receive a well-deserved award, for Josh Windass’ outstanding February, is almost impalpable.

There are a couple of ways to spin it; we could take the negative of how bad Rangers have been for our side to fail to win any SPL awards in all that time, which included over well two full seasons in the top flight among it, or we could take the positive of an excellent week for our club where three players were selected for Scotland and one was given the POTM, suggesting we truly are on the road to recovery.

However you side on it though, no denying that Bates injury aside, it has been a decent week off the pitch and it is right that Rangers players are finally being recognised again.

Unfortunately the fledgling feelgood factor took a bit of a dent last weekend, and tomorrow hardly sees respite with one of Scotland’s best current teams coming to Ibrox. Incidentally, no surprise that Steve Clarke won the manager award.

Here’s hoping Rangers overcome him and his team.

  1. To be honest it is indicative of what's happening. Contrary to the Tim ruled Scottish press😡(Will get to that) we are making progress and it's only a matter of time. Live down south and we had so much good will last week believe me. We were not outplayed and couldn't have said that a year ago so without a doubt we are improving faster than they are. Trouble for them is there's a ceiling in Scotland so no way can they get much better. As for the Scottish press well I can't believe any rangers man would go near that' certain daily and the fact that some actually vote for people that want us dead is astonishing. They hate us and I love it

    • Agree Shug 😄👍
      "Tim" Times is almost up
We will soon overtake them and be scotlands No.1 again 👌⚽💙
