The ugly truth about Scotland

After tonight’s loss to Hampden, the boos rung out at Hampden for Scotland. Rangers players’ involvement was minimal – neither Murphy nor Cummings started, and despite the wealth of subs that can be made in friendlies, Murphy made a fruitless 3 minute cameo at the end and Cummings failed to get anything.

And those boos? Ibrox Noise had predicted boos for Rangers players, but that couldn’t really come to pass given their limited involvement but more telling was the boos for the overall display.

Despite more possession, more shots and frankly reasonable all round play, Scotland were undone by a clinical finish from a team who, lest we forget, got to the quarter finals of 2014’ss world cup and were only undone by penalties.

Scotland were facing a side ranked 26th in the world, yet fans booed a decent performance with a fair number of chances made?

Sure, Scotland has a problem with Rangers, but it also seems to have a problem with itself.

We can’t quite tell if the boos were because a h*n is in charge of the NT or what, but to boo your side for losing to the better team by a very honourable 0-1 thanks to a brilliant assist and even better finish is indicative of a national football regime destined to remain in the doldrums for a long, long time.

Forget the glory days of France 98, forget the near misses of 2007/2008 and the titanic results Eck and Walter managed.

No, a fringe Scotland team went out and gave a decent account of itself, if nothing brilliant, and lost to a damn good team, so let’s boo?

How are Scotland ever going to get to a major championship if their ‘fans’ boo them for a night like that?

Scotland hates Scotland as much as it does Rangers.

  1. If you think that was a decent performance IN then we are in trouble. I agree with the comments about the boo’s. Big Eck put out an experimental team and that’s what these friendlys are about but the performance in the first half was shocking. I wish we would stop going on about us against the world. It makes us sound like we care what other teams think!lets just concentrate on Rangers and getting us back to were we belong.

  2. I think the boos are probably borne from frustration, frustration at the incompetence of the SFA, frustration at getting a manager who has done nothing of note in the game for about 4 years and most folk think the appointment is a step backwards. Frustration at losing the first game in the new era of us playing with a swagger etc. A lot of our own fans booed uscof the park after Kilmarnock defeat….two weeks earlier they were being lauded as the real deal. Football fans are fickle. As for Scotland fans booing Rangers plsyers I totally disagree…if players do the business on the park most fans give a toss about who they play for.

  3. Do you go to Ibrox? The fans boo at halftime if we are not winning, they definitely boo at full time after a draw or defeat! I'm no fan of Scotland, in fact I'd rather our player's refused to play for them but we can't talk about people booing players after a defeat!

  4. Big Alex will get a blend that can do better.but don't hold yet breath !@ ..I didnt expect the Rangers players to be selected Done to appease the Tartan Army Lolo Army Lolo!!@ …funny tho how 2 of the Rotten Mob come on ???? ..Anyway the problem with Scottish Football is deep seated…the SFA and it's so called Coaches are a clique of disgraceful proportions who keep their jobs no matter win lose or draw…Scotland is nowhere in World Football at ANY level from U16 to Senior because of this…Why does England Wales and even NI do better ???? Until that whole shit little SFA debacle is totally gutted it will remain this way….Just worry about Rangers guys

  5. Anyone else see the ironically about this. Our own fans were groaning and booing after 15mins against Kilmarnock last weekend, and that was while we were on top. Can’t Exactly give the manky lot a hard time for doing something that we also do
