“No brainer” – Rangers fans make their choice

If recent comments and social media posts are anything to go by, Rangers fans have made their choice for Sunday’s Old Firm encounter.

As readers will know, the left back berth is now a straight shoot-out between the returning Lee Wallace, the deputising Andy Halliday and the recently-recovered Declan John who returned to full training this week.

But the fans have stated their unequivocal choice is the current first choice, Wales’ international and ex-Cardiff defender John.

Wallace came through a full 90 minutes yesterday unscathed in a hastily-arranged bounce match against St Mirren, a match designed to give minutes to those returning from injury and those currently less in favour.

That the club captain managed to last the full period is a testament to his professionalism and fitness, and certainly does give Graeme Murty food for thought.

However, despite Andy Halliday’s credible displays filling in at that slot, it is a no brainer to select Declan John, assuming he too is as fit as reports state he is.

John has been in fine form and would absolutely devastated to miss this one, and he is currently Rangers’ best option for that role.

It is good though that Wallace is likely to be at least on the bench, and should Rangers require to protect the left more ferociously, Wallace can at least come on later in the match to supplement the defence.

It is a decent boost going into the match and certainly adds to Rangers’ options.
