Has Graeme Murty just dropped a big hint about Jason Cummings?

Rangers manager Graeme Murty has today admitted striker Jason Cummings, a January winter loan signing from Aitor Karanka’s Nottingham Forest, has had to bide his time and has been frustrated with lack of game minutes.

The 22-year old has played second fiddle to Colombian Alfredo Morelos in the league, and in three starts in the cup and a number of substitute cameos has managed five goals.

The irony of course is that at Forest, Cummings probably did not show the form he is capable of, while at Ibrox he certainly has.

But despite his form, Murty has been unwilling to deploy him as first choice striker in light of Morelos’ form, and he has conceded the City Ground loanee has been professional and got on with it, but been undeniably irritated.

He said:

“Jason has had to contain his frustration a little bit and is it much to his credit that he has, as it is that he has managed to get the (Scotland) manager’s attention through the time he has had.”

It is the second time in 10 days Murty has made direct reference to Cummings and his lack of starts, only last week rhetorically asking how he could possibly drop someone who just scored a hat trick.

Then proceeded to do so, in a decision which may have backfired. It is also the second time in aforementioned 10 days that Murty has praised Cummings unconditionally. Is it the second time he is set to overlook him again?

Or will this time see the Scotland international start a league match this weekend for the first time at Ibrox since joining from the Reds?

We shall see.

  1. Hope he does start and Escobars on the bench.
It will be the last time he sits on the bench.
Wanting to drop a player who's scored 13 in 27 for a player who's scored 1 in 23 in the SPL is just trueley mental.
He also bullies every single defence in the SPL like no other player in the SPL.

  2. I was thrilled when we signed him I wanted him to join Rangers when he was at Hibs and we all know those twats wouldnt deal with us … So when we got him on loan I was hoping to see his best …everything he has done in those appearances for us has been superb …he knows how to score in Scottish Football and gas the character and ability to go with it …Please start him on Saturday's …drop Windass to the bench I would also start Halliday in the anchor role too as Malumbu will be a presence

  3. Halliday? Are you serious? Most of the criticism of Halliday, apart from not being good enough, was that he was never a holding midfield player. Malumbu will be a big threat which is why we should be trying to sign him for next season. We need to find out what Cummings can do for us but I wouldn't drop Morelos. And Murty doesn't really want to play 2 up top. Therein lies the dilemma!
