Former Ibrox star close to summer manager switch; reports

If you believe what you read, and of course, who wouldn’t believe everything on Ibrox Noise, Rangers have made their decision with regards a manager for next season.

And it sure as heck won’t be Graeme Murty.

Rumours online the past month have kept circulating with regards Frank de Boer, who was very much in the mix the last time Rangers had a vacancy, and our information is he is indeed very interested in the job.

In fact, he even went public with his interest before Murty secured the position:

“As a player, I played for a while (at Rangers) and the atmosphere was fantastic, you never know if I will go back, we have to look at the possibilities, but they have not contacted me yet.”

In short, if Rangers do step up their reported interest in Frank, it’s a pretty sure thing he’d take the job.

Is he good enough? His managerial CV is mixed – outstanding at Ajax, dismal at Inter and Palace. Rangers are most similar, currently, to Ajax – a sleeping European giant who still expect to win every match in a weaker league.

De Boer’s record there was superb, but he was unable to replicate it in Italy, and while Jose’s words were harsh, he probably does come close to being the worst manager in EPL history in London. But then look how bad Diego Forlan was at Old Trafford before becoming extraordinary at Villarreal and Atletico. Different environments, different performances.

The truth is Rangers need someone who understands this club, this league, and the demands of both – someone who has experienced both sides of the game and can relate to the fans.

De Boer is a very smart and intelligent man, who is probably a better coach than his post-Holland career suggests – but as with it all, he needs the right job.

Whether that is Rangers is unknown, but an old Rangers hero coming back to take the reins would be appreciated and get the excitement flowing far more than any of the last three appointments.

    • Dont think Jack Ross will be in charge of St Mirren much longer, championship manager in Premiership league not sure.

    • If Steve Clarke is unavailable, and budgets remain as tight, this is a good call. He has transformed the playing side of two clubs, knows the game in Scotland and would do much better than of the last four duds.

  1. An old Rangers hero coming back to take the reigns, you forgot about McCoist??
Frank didn't want the job last year why should he be offered it now. I don't know who the best manager to have is but I think Frank is not the best option, what about GVB or Rino??

  2. yes IN -the first question Mr de Boer will ask is how much will be in my transfer kitty as these players just don't cut it?

    Interview over…….

Unless an Arab oil sheik or a billionaire industrialist relocates to Govan, in the words of that old Dads Army jock – " We're all dooooooomed !"

  3. I won’t touch De Boer with a barge pole. He has provedhe can’t handle the pressure at smaller clubs than ours. It has to be Mr McInnes.

  4. Come on Ibrox Noise, give Murty a break! There's an old saying. you can only piss with the cock you have got and that sums up Murty's plight right now. He's had injuries to contend with in crucial areas of the park and the team are playing better football than they were under the last three managers! We do desperately need at least one dominant centre back and a first class defensive midfielder but maybe we have both recovering from injury now. Forget De Boer, he's lost it!

  5. Dont start this shite about De Boer. He played a few games for this club and hes going to be our saviour. Warburton was easily found out. Garbage. Pedro was a massive blunder by whoever won't take responsibility. A joke of a manager. Clueless. Murty took the job when nobody else would and under the circumstances has done a better job than any of the past three managers. Before christmas last we were not going anywhere and being second best didn't even seem an option at the time but things turned around for a while and we had hope under murty who, whatever his leanings, gave us that hope. Now we all know he isnt the man to take the club further but give him a break, lets see where we end up and hopefully king and co will already have the next manager in their sights but i hope its not de boer or mcinness. Its no point in asking who i would have as manager by the way. First we have to see who wants to come in. A lot more bullshite to come I'm afraid.

the man to take us forward

  6. God help us if true another punt in the dark , who will want millions to spend probably on Dutchman or scands to achieve nothing , I know Murty is limited in ability bt so is some of the squad he has to work with , imo keep Murty on rolling contracts and get 3 or 4 quality plays to fill the positions that lack consistency goalie cb , rb , Windass, Morales .

  7. No to McInnes
    No to FDB

Jack Ross is an Interesting one but i dont think he's ready for an OF Job yet

    Alves is Done …Hes Pish
Apart from Tav, McCrorie, AWilson, John and Wallace …our Defence is Pish

And lets go out and get McGinn before they do!!

  8. Frank de Boer would be fatal. And to some fans on here, just because the likes of Kilmarnock or other teams beat us, doesn't automatically mean we should sign their manager!! That's desperate talk!!

    • TheStevo926,, I think you have misinterpreted my comment. Look up "fatal" in the dictionary,, you'll find that I am actually in agreement with you mate.

  9. Well the talk coming out of Ibrox is that the new manager is at an advanced stage.
Don't know for sure if it is FDB but seems like Murty is a no go. looks like plenty changes come the summer.
Want to make a announcement now we all need clarity.
Whoever comes in he's got his work cut out with some of the mediocre pish pulling on the famous jersey.

  10. I do hope we get him or another top manager who will put in his all for our club,i read that one of the names for job is a life long Selltic fan well i draw line there on SC is it true we need to watch who we put in place now
