A tricky problem for Graeme Murty

With no points of the last six, it is vital Graeme Murty continues Rangers’ fine away form to reverse the bleeding of the past two losses.

Murty has a great number of decisions to make, not least of all whether fit-again Ross McCorie starts, but as we said here on Ibrox Noise in the build up to Kilmarnock, our opponents this weekend are right in form and riding high following their point against Celtic.

Indeed, only two losses in their last seven matches, including one against Kilmarnock, shows this is a side quite capable of taking all three points against Rangers, and their last loss at Fir Park, Killie aside, goes back to last year.

In short, Steve Robinson’s men will be extremely confident going into this one despite the certainty they will not be a top six team come the split – their form loss in late autumn derailed their season entirely.

However, they have bounced back, and are certainly one of Scotland’s more in form sides, and Rangers will have to have their full a-game to get the three points.

We also cannot figure out what formation Murty is likely to opt for. The 4-2-3-1 has struggled against well-organised teams recently, and Motherwell fit into that category.

Murty will have to select something different and be unpredictable if Rangers are to come back to Ibrox with three points.

In terms of team news – the usual injury absentees are likely to be out of the picture again this weekend – Ryan Jack, David Bates, Jordan Rossiter, Lee Wallace, and Graham Dorrans are all either plain injured, or not yet fully ready for first-team football.

But the return of McCrorie is a timely boost and if the youngster produces the kind of form which made his absence so hard to bear, it could well solve the defensive crisis plaguing Govan.

What’s for sure, no matter the side selected by the Light Blues, it is no foregone conclusion to get the win. Far from it.

  1. The same old story Motherwell will be very physical against us ..the ref will allow it !!I'm honestly very dissapointed the Site and has taken so long ,unfortunately it tells a common story about him historically sorry to say that but ???, MCrorrie needs to be at CH in a back 4 …Docherty stays where he is please …Cummings in for Windass 2 up front with Morelos …Midfield Docherty Murphy Halliday Candellas

    • Is it just me or can anyone remember before Christmas?McCorrie was a bomb scare at the back!He made so many mistakes. He’s better in midfield.

  2. Yes, McCrorie is never a centre half I'm afraid,, I like him, but not at the back!
It's 50/50 this weekend. We are in with half a chance to win, that's how bloody average we are!!!

  3. I must admit I don't remember McCrorie was a bombscare at CB.

Maybe I just have a bad memory, but I thought he was ok

  4. I like McCrorie too but he is a young player who will make mistakes. That is certainly my recollection of him when he played at centre half. But he did look the part at defensive midfield. He's another example of a player who gets better every week he is injured. Rossiter being another.

  5. Got to try McCorie and Docherty in the 2 holding role before the SF.
They could boss it against them, plenty bite from them 2

  6. He made mistakes and lost bad goals against Celtic,St Johnstone and Hamilton. He is better in midfield.

    • Like to see us sign Motherwell's Cedric Kipre for next season to play at the back next to Bates . A solid big centre half who takes no prisoners , what we've needed for a long time .

  7. Further to my post mucked it up @@@ I am very dissapointed in Dorrans why is he taking so long …same old story with this lads career

  8. Not sure what formation Murty will play!.was that meant as a joke there?.be 4231fod.John Alves Martin tavs.goss Docherty.murphy Windass candelas.morelos.if all fit predictable
