Why Rangers must be very, very wary…

Article by: Richard, for Ibrox Noise

This Saturday’s game at Ibrox against Hearts may not be as easy as some of our supporters are hoping it will be.

Kyle Lafferty is a consistent scorer for them this season, so our defence will have to be much sharper than they were against lowly Hamilton last Sunday.

Does Murty persist with young David Bates at centre back ahead of experienced internationalist Bruno Alves, especially now that he is holding out for a new and better contract deal?

Hopefully ex-Scotland centre half Martin will perform much better than he did last week in his worst game in a Rangers jersey. Of course, I would prefer Murty to play all three of them as a precautionary measure, although I doubt he will change from his preferred 4 at the back line-up.

Hearts are currently lying fifth in the league table having only lost one game out of the last 13 matches played and not having lost to anyone outwith Celtic since Guy Fawkes’ night. Too many draws have been their downfall, with dropped points all over the place.

Their outstanding 4-0 winning performance against Celtic at Tynecastle has seen the east end club losing their way a bit. I think our Old Firm rivals have lost some of their confidence since that shock mauling.

Celtic did get some of their pride back when they beat Hearts 3-1 in a midweek home match and this was their only defeat in recent months.

You can check out their last 13 games.

Hearts 1–0 Motherwell – Hearts 2–0 Dundee –  Hearts 4–0 Celtic
St. Johnstone 0–0 Hearts – Hearts 0-0 Hibernian – Aberdeen 0–0 Hearts
Hearts 1–0 Hibernian – Hamilton 0–3 Hearts – Hearts 1-1 Motherwell
Celtic 3-1 Hearts – Hearts 1-0 St Johnstone – Hearts 3-0 St Johnstone
Ross County 1-1 Hearts

Let’s hope that Murty’s new confident Rangers team perform well at Ibrox this week and take all of the precious 3 points available because victory is no given against the SPL draw specialists.

  1. Yip he will be the big threat along with the other rat Naismith. This is clear to any bear but in the past we have not taken appropriate caution as we seen when Scot Allan came on for Dundee and sunk us! I'm hoping Jimmy Nicol will provide that more obvious local knowledge now to Murts.

I'm not sure about bringing Alves back…ever. He took a dive in that OF match because he didn't want to go with the group to Florida. He's done absolutely nothing for us at any point and clearly has no commitment to our club. He'll be a big cost to get off the wage bill. Not sure young Bates is the greatest and he does scare me sometimes but if he can just perform like he did against selic he'll be good enough.

We need to win this one thats for sure!!

  2. I know it is a cliché, but this really is the biggest game of the season now. Every single time we have gone above Aberdeen, we have relinquished that position almost immediately. I would happily forgo the free-flowing football of late for a gritty performance and a 1-0 win. We can hope for other teams to drop points, but we absolutely MUST go on a winning run now. If we finished 3 points from top, but did it with continued stuttering results, I genuinely would not give Murty the job next season. Let’s get over this mental handicap of our home form and put a solid run together.

  3. Im.more concerned by our own team and our performances at home after 3 away wins on the trot .
It cannot be denied there is a pattern of poor play at home after a few a good wins on the bounce , we have had a few false dawns with this hoodoo I just hope that the growth we have seen is enough to see us through

  4. Lets get Ibrox rocking again, ever since the songs with sectarian words in them were banned, what about changing the word fenian in the billy boy with words like scumbags etc, same with No one likes us,and all the other songs with sectarian words in them…….No Surrender……
