Worrying future for Rangers legend…

With Graeme Murty’s Rangers Revolution (how many ‘Rangers Revolutions’ are we going to have?!) well underway, Ibrox Noise alluded in a recent article to how a number of players such as Niko Kranjcar, Jordan Rossiter and Eduardo Herrera were feeling threatened by the new arrivals and had gone to great lengths to big themselves up publicly.

Well, there is another player who must be looking over his shoulder now, and the site covered him some months ago – with his ‘replacement’ in stellar form, captain Lee Wallace is in a very tricky place right now.

Like it or not, guys, Josh Windass is only going to leave if he is sold for a good price. Somehow he has become a first-team stalwart without anyone really noticing.

Ergo, the notion of Declan John taking his left wing place to accommodate Lee Wallace’s return is a non-starter.

Murty appears to be settled on a 4-2-3-1 and unless Rangers are going to have a bench teeming with first-team players, Windass and John are likely to be left wing and left back respectively.

Which leaves Wallace. What happens now to the Rangers legend?

Many fans did advocate him returning to LB, shifting John more advanced and possibly switching Windass inside to the false 10 position. That is possible.

But it leaves only two attacking slots available for Michael O’Halloran, Andy Halliday, Eduardo Herrera, Kenny Miller, Jamie Murphy, Jason Cummings and Alfredo Morelos to name just seven players who would expect dibs.

Will Lee Wallace really find himself benched to accommodate John retaining the LB slot while Windass takes the left of the three?

In truth, in many ways it would make a selection headache easier for Murty if a good bid came in for Windass and he was sold. It would streamline the squad for starters.

Cummings and Morelos are surely definite starters. Kilmarnock’s Jordan Jones may well arrive too and not to warm the bench either, so what on earth does Murty do?

In fact we have no idea! What does Graeme Murty do with Lee Wallace? We will give it to you guys.

  1. Our captain deserves the chance of a clean slate. He is now under a new regime which should suit him. I believe we are a better team with him in the squad. Lets give him a chance to return from injury. He stuck by us, Now it is our turn.

  2. Josh Windass won't be anywhere near the left wing. Have you forgot that we've just signed Jamie Murphy for that position? We've put a bid in for Jordan Jones as back-up to Murphy in that position. Windass has excelled through the middle and he won't move from that position given his current form there.

I think Wallace will return to left back as defensively he's a bit better than Declan John – while Declan John is in great form and drives forward with the ball better than Wallace, the issues on the left side will hopefully be sorted with the signing of Murphy.

I don't think that Wallace will be automatically placed back into the team though – the position is Declan John's to lose.

  3. For the past four or five years big Lee has been class. His stamina and attitude have been like a beacon to our young players and I wish to God so called "supporters" would get off his back and welcome him back into the team.

  4. I dont agree, i think he will take the LB slot and John will go further forward (where John actually wants to play), Windass is playing cos there was no one else. Murphy, Morelos, Candeas, Cummings will be priorities long before Windass. I actually think (Hope) Windass will be leaving.
Niko and Miller are done, coaching role for Miller and get rid of Niko.
Docherty, Jack, Dorrans, Goss sharing the 2 MF slots. Halliday and MOH on the bench.

  5. play wallace hes our only l,b move john foward ,windass ,morelloss alves ,herrera, cardosso ,are all off this month .

  6. It's no exactly a hard decision johns clearly a far better player no need to shoe horn him in will have to be the bench for Wallace

  7. Lee Wallace great servant the Rangers …but his injuries as he gets older….Lovely lad ..and a credit to his family ..I would keep him in the squad unless he feels he needs first team football

  8. Wallace on the bench for me. it's johns position to lose. Won't forget what he's done but can't be sentimental, same goes for halliday who's not good enough, but will no doubt stay, along with miller. Need a BIG lump of a striker now to muscle defences around. Niko will be off the wage bill at the end of the season, along with dalcio and hopefully, if not part of the plans, dodoo and forrester. Get some money back for Herrera, Alves, Hodson and maybe even sell on windass, though he has improved playing through the middle (though o'halloran plays the same position). We need to think about what to do with rossiter too. picked up a million quid in wages from us and been struck down with injuries. one more injury and we should cut our losses and free up his salary. harsh but no choice really, business! with the young lads signing contracts and the loan deals with possible contracts, targets and present squad, the future is looking much better and finding a balance and depth. watp

  9. Keep Windass boys! Play him in behind Morelos and Cummings. Lee looked like he had lost pace before this injury. Would love to see him back to top form though.

  10. Windass Morelos must stay
Wallace? Squad player. EVERY good club has good alternatives

He has been and still is a great Ranger. But NOBODY deserves to play unless fit and on form.
I would cut a loss and give Rossitter to 118 118. Waste of our time and money

  11. Every time someone has had a half decent game stranding in at left back this site has predicted the downfall of Wallace. Only last season Beerman was boeing heralded to take his place before the Celtic debacle. Truth of the matter is that Eallace is yet he best left back at the club – a much better defender than John – and would have made the Scotland position his own if not for Strachan, Tierney and Robertson – oh and staying with Rangers in the lower leagues. We should also sign a decent right back and play both Tavenier and John as wide midfielders. This would masked us solid defensively, as well as a potent threat going forward.
