Who made it and who didn’t? A who’s who of Rangers’ trip to USA

Rangers have this morning left Edinburgh Airport for their Florida training camp, and there has been much hubbub about who made the flight and who did not.

Most definitely on the flight were two of the returning loanees, Michael O’Halloran and Andy Halliday. Joe Dodoo was nowhere to be seen despite the end of his loan at Charlton and unless the young striker is injured or had other dispensation to not make the flight, one does wonder if Graeme Murty sees him as an option at all.

New signing Sean Goss was happily on board, but the Jamie Murphy deal appears to have been held up by paperwork with apparent details still to be ironed out with Brighton. The winger was absent from the flight.

The increasingly notorious “Pedro Pack” had mixed fortunes. Bruno Alves, obviously, back in Portugal undergoing rehabilitation, was absent, as was Carlos Pena who is said to be working on his loan switch to Azul Crul. There was also no sign of Eduardo Herrera who is reportedly working his ticket out as well. But Dalcio and Fabio Cardoso were present and in attendance despite strong speculation having both leaving this month.

Aaron Nemane was unsurprisingly gone – the loan winger is said to have switched to the Dutch second division, and despite the possibility of his being used in a Jordan Jones deal, right back Lee Hodson made the trip.

The likes of Niko Kranjcar, Jason Holt and David Bates were all in attendance, as were Danny Wilson, James Tavernier and Ryan Jack.

New assistant manager Jimmy Nicholl also attended his first proper duty as Murty’s number one.

Here is hoping the trip across the pond is productive.

  1. The time to do our real deals are in summer. Finishing 2nd is obviously our target. But signing players on 4 year deals at present is not good sense. Look at the shit we are in with Pena not to mention the signings by Warburton 2 years ago. How many players have we currently got playing for other clubs and whose wages we are subbing? The board have got to keep costs down. We have been somewhat unlucky to with injuries(Wallace, Doran’s , Rossiter)all of whom are costing a lot of money. O,Halloran and Halliday back doesn’t thrill me. I still think there are question marks around McCrory and Bates. They are young but we must compete now. Murphy may be good in Championship but hasn’t cracked it in premiership. A 3.5 year deal for a 28 year old , even if he is Rangers fan, may be what he wants to see himself to retirement. It happens. It’s not easy negotiating for Rangers at present. But two poor choices of manager following a disastrous one(Ally) does not make it easy. Perhaps with hindsight we should have kept Stuart McCall. But we must get behind team more than ever now,
