What will Murty’s new Rangers look like?

It is safe to say changes are seriously asunder at Ibrox. Looking at the new recruits already (Goss and Murphy) on top of those heavily linked (Docherty, Cummings) and those returning from loans (Halliday, Dodoo and O’Halloran) and Rangers are already starting to have a different feel from the disastrous Caixinha era.

But what shape are all these players going to give the side? And just how different could Rangers already be under Graeme Murty compared with a month ago?

Evidently, there will be no change in goal. Wes Foderingham has his critics, especially Ibrox Noise’s very own Richard, but while he is far from Goram or Klos, his shotstopping ability really is excellent at times. He was a major reason Celtic drew a blank last weekend, just like his opposite number kept us out similarly.

In defence we are seeing a settled pattern. James Tavernier, David Bates, Danny Wilson and either Lee Wallace or Declan John looks like the order of the day. It has been quite a solid area of the pitch and we do not expect much change there for now.

In midfield there is much upheaval. Jordan Rossiter remains sidelined, Graham Dorrans has joined him, and Ryan Jack is unreliable. So in has come Sean Goss and the QPR midfielder will be expecting plenty of game time, as will imminent capture Jamie Murphy, who will occupy the left either of a three up front or a four in midfield. Meanwhile Andy Halliday’s return may well see him deployed in advanced midfield and if Rangers should land Hamilton’s Docherty, the options for midfield deepen.

Up front is where the plot thickens even more interestingly. With Murphy now available, Miller out injured, Herrera outcast, and Hardie out of favour, Joe Dodoo has a chance to shine – similarly Michael O’Halloran looks like he may well be getting a serious crack at the first team at long last. The only remnant of the last manager will be Morelos, should he not be sold. But again the Colombian is out of form and finds goals hard to come by. While his work on the ball is good, his finishing has become a major problem, even when he is given plenty of good chances.

So… what could we look like?

Foderingham; Tavernier, Bates, Wilson, John; and this is where we are glad we are not the manager.

With a selection of McCrorie, Jack, Goss, Holt, potentially Docherty, Halliday, Murphy, Candeias, O’Halloran, Dodoo, and Morelos, fitting those eleven players into a smooth working last two thirds could be quite tricky to say the least.

Our best front six would probably be McCrorie, Jack and Docherty in a three, with O’Halloran and Murphy flanking Morelos and the likes of Halliday, Candeias, Dodoo and Goss on the bench – but the likes of Goss did not come to Ibrox to be a sub.

In short folks, your guess is as good as ours!

It is a lot of turnover and we are not exactly convinced it is the right direction, given we still do not seem overly top heavy up front with quality, or even in midfield. We do currently have plenty of wingers, with Murphy, O’Halloran, Candeias, and Windass on the books, but a lack of real strikers and defensive midfielders.

We will see what transpires over the coming weeks, but right now, it looks a little random, frankly.

  1. Morelos is a fine goalscorer. He was unlucky against Celtic. I can see him scoring more and more after the break. 20+ for the season easy. People need to go easy on him, he's still young and didn't really get a summer break either.

    • Go easy??
They want to wise to fuck up, SPL top goal scorer and 4 in 6 games.
On his jack jones if U don't mind!
      Mental!!

    • I agree with Joe. I think Morelos is a great upcoming player who shows a lot of skill in passing the ball and one who is always very alert. I think if we stick by him he will surely produce the goods. He has been very unlucky in the few games. WATP

    • Aye I sprayed my brew all over with that one… That’s the biggest load of 🐂💩 I’ve saw in a while… We’d be fucked without his goals and effort least he’s got talent…

  2. The only rumour of a move for Morelos has come from on here. Nothing in the tabloids which I’ve saw to date of putting this up. To be honest it’s as if IN want rid of him for what reason I’m not sure..

Break it down he’s come to Rangers from Finland, was on fire from the off. Pedro then gets the Spanish Archer his form dips a bit – he’s dropped comes back in and scores more goals.

He was unlucky against Celtic and yes he missed a sitter so did super Ally ffs. Yet IN are telling us he’s not good enough or prolific enough ( Waghorn Garner do I need to continue ).

He’s also still settling and learning the lingo and then his pal is getting the Archer too Pena.. So tell us IN what do you get told from the inside at Ibrox that he’s to go?

Bet you don’t even reply to this….

    • I will ma mate.
Don't think he missed a sitter.
Did everything bang on, headed the ball back to where it came from and headed it in2 the ground.
      Textbook.
Gordon was diving the other way and got very very lucky, Buffalo got na luck!!!

    • I thought he placed his header well to be fair mate. I was meaning the other chance he had when he screwed his header and nobody marking him. I rate him his finishing from angles is unreal plus he loves the physical side of it…

  3. Let's be clear Dodoo is only back at Ibrox because he was so poor at Charlton – he will contribute nothing of value and has no future at the club. O'Halloran I fear does have the attitude or mental strength to play for Rangers. Great to see Murty/Allen clear out Pedro's deadwood – although as much as I feel it is essential to get rid of Pena part of me would like to see us holding out for a fee rather than a loan. We know that Pedro for some reason will demand that he gets Pena. Time the summer comes around chances are Pedro will have been sacked and we will be lumbered with Pena's return.
I still have my doubts as to whether Murty will be appointed on a permanent basis so let me add one theory to the return of Jimmy Nicholl. Are Rangers really interested in Michael O'Neill but maybe he didn't want to take over in January with a failing squad which might damage his reputation which is currently at a career high. If so what better than to bring in Nicholl who can assess the squad for him, have a hand in who comes and who goes in January. Nicholl is of course O'Neill's assistant in the N.Ireland set up. Has a certain logic. Watch this space!

    • I agree with a lot of what you say especially in the setting up of assistant manager etc but i have to say although i didnt expect murty as a season long replacement….the players like him. Remember Watty had to put the arm round some players from time to time….i think MoH will benefit from being wanted. He has ability..it was workrate that was questioned a lot….but lets face it if PD showed disinterest in training…i think we need to let MoH try to make his mark…if he doesnt then its def over for him. Murty wants uk talent. Thats what we need.

    • Dexter. 1. MOH has had no real, fair run of games compared to likes of Holt and Halliday. He's played as an attacking nd at St Johnstone and wrecks defences.
      2. If Michael O'Neill rejected. The Gers because he doesn't want to damage his reputation then that says enough to me to say HE has a bad attitude and can get himself to fuck.

GRAEME MURTY is our Manager and has made great in roads already to the trash that O'NEILL couldn't take in case he COULDN'T handle it?

GRAEME MURTY needs to be given 100% backing or it says barrel loads about a section of glory hunting fans too

      The home form highlights that

      SUPPORT THE FUCKIN TEAM

      Christ sake

    • Brian.
MOH a different script playing for a team on the front foot, totally ineffective, waste of a shirt if U can't utilise his pace!!

    • Brian calm down! All pure speculation on my part – maybe nothing In it we will see. Much will depend on how Murty goes for the second half of the season – and he has my full support while he's there. Personally I think he's been hung out to dry by an ineffectual board that lack strategic direction – but I don't believe he's in the frame for the position at the end of the season unless he really exceeds expectations. So far he's got it spot on against the top teams – but losses to Hamilton,Dundee, Kilmarnock, and St Johnstone blot his copy book. 12 points from those 4 games and we'd be sitting top of the league at the break 1pt ahead of Brenda's boys!

    • Hamilton & Dundee I’ll give you. That said Kilmarnock are on top form since Clarke arrived their results prove that Dexter. I agree our home form has to improve but I’m certain he will be rectifying that with Jimmy and the new signings…

  4. I agree that Candeias has been excellent. If O'H, or anyone else, wants his jersey, they will really have to go some.

He works hard, he meshes well with Tavernier, and he delivers quality ball into the box.

    What more can you want?

  5. We need a replacement for Kenny – and in my view with signings we have made so far that is what we need to prioritise. Morelos needs that support and he will be banging in the goals. Will be interesting to see how Goss turns out… could be that player that really help the defence and be the box to box midfielder….or could not and be total pish…. lets see.

  6. Question is – What will Murty's new Rangers look like?

Answer – Very little difference on how Warbutons team looked like!

    • Now Jimbo.
Don't U start talking like some of the eeeejits on here.
Still 25 days of business to go and the quality of player is of a higher pedigree than the loaf mans.
I'm know we will all be happier come February 1st.

    • Guys, I take it all back, I was going to say,,,,

Foderingham, Tav, Wilson, Hodgson, Windass, Halliday, Dodoo, Forester, MOH, Holt, Kranjcar, Rossiter and of course, Murty himself were all acquired by Warbuton. Murty plays the same game as Warbs, therefore we wont see any difference on the park…,,,

However, since the signing of Jimmy Nichol, I take it all back, he will soon have us playing with fire!!! Jimmy is a fab signing!

    • Mate.
Think there will be 3/4 more signings.
I prey Cummings is not one of them, SCL is all that he's proven at.
Big Big risk, the rest ok
