Seven figures: Rangers target hikes up in cost; reports

Following the reported £600,000 bid Rangers are said to have submitted for Hamilton’s Greg Docherty, it has emerged the Superseal side have hiked the asking price up for the future Scottish international and now demand close to a million.

Numbers reported vary between £600k and close to seven figures, but evidently Hamilton are aware of this lad’s value and are not going to let him go cheap.

Quite honestly, unless it goes to a stupid fee, Rangers should pay it. After all, we ourselves have rejected a £500K bid from Preston for Josh Windass so evidently we are starting to understand the worth of players and Docherty is a player and a half.

Rangers would be a tad fortunate to pick Docherty up for anything under £700K and Hamilton do not need to sell; there is also the slight threat of Cardiff coming in and outbidding, but the player wants to stay in Scotland so he would personally resist that move.

This is one that must not rumble on like Rangers transfer sagas often do. It should be sorted and agreed within 24 hours or we move on.

  1. Agreed. But at the same time, we can't let teams get away with upping the price every time we pick up the phone. I don't know who decides player values, where the £600k figure came from for instance. Was it the Record, Rangers, speculation, Transfermarkt? Then I suppose the selling club decides whether they can up that price depending on competition for the players among clubs, cost of replacement, what the buying club can afford, etc.
If we have to go to £750k, fair enough, but I wouldn't want to keep going. Remember, we have young players who will not get a chance if he signs.
Maybe we should be sending a few of our best on loan for a season to Thistle, Hamilton, Dundee etc to see if they can make it.

  2. Yes totally agree ibrox noise, greg docherty IS a player and a half!A total box to box midfielder, powerful
with a terrific engine! You're correct,to get young greg docherty for anything like 600k,would be a steal!I reckon we will probably need to pay hamilton accies around 750k for him, minimum, with probably add ons on top of that, not to mention a sell on clause being inserted as part of the deal!Truly hope we sign this young man!

  3. Just stick in a bid of £850k and Docherty will be a Rangers Player
    He is worth it! 👍

Agree with you ScotsWhaHae about sending out a few of our young Lads to Dundee, Hamilton, Ross County etc

  4. Here we go again. Jamie Walker part 2. Lets bump up the price as it's Rangers for an average player. He is playing for Hamilton for a reason! I don't see any English Premiership teams breaking down the door to buy the lad.
I've watch the lad, he isn't any better than any other midfielder in the SPFL. I hope Rangers walk away from this, he is no where near Rangers class.

  5. How mamy times do you walk in a shop agree a price for something then the shop up the price. Before anyone says anything I understand buying some things through finance can increase the price but dont think we would have worked out a 5 year payment agreement for the lad. If the price was agreed as £600k between the clubs and the offer was £600k then that should be it done deal.

  6. Hamilton DO have to sell. They were victims of an online scam few months ago and lost around 700k. The directors had to bail them out using their own money and they will want their money back so selling Docherty makes sense.

Unless other clubs make concrete bids then we should sit tight at 600k. We will only need to go higher if someone else makes a better offer…

  7. Agree 100 % it's always the same when it's US !!! The rotten get Morgan for 300,000 and low and behold Hamilton want near 1 Mill ..Tell them it's 5 or 6 hundred thousand or fuck all Cardiff won't pay that for sure …Disrespecful Bastards

  8. First of all let's congratulate the team for their efforts in florida however let's not get complacent we must continue in the same vain back home some players haven't worked out some I wouldn't have given a second chance to however the powers say otherwise their players who can't recover from injury it's time they go and play in a slower league miller and krancjar and Alves so bringing in younger players makes sense get Doherty for the right price not a penny more we shouldn't be held to ransom we must not be reckless bring in Arnfeild we need to progress not going backwards certain players who have previously being out on loan have something to prove .
