Jason Cummings sets startling target

New signing Jason Cummings has tonight admitted he has come to Ibrox to challenge Celtic, and is not even setting his sights on any of the rest of the SPL.

The 22-year old striker put pen to paper on a six-month deal tonight, and hopes to make it permanent, while also getting back into the national team set up, but did not even hint at aspiring to second place in the SPL, instead going straight for competing with Celtic for number one.

He said:

“Obviously as a team we want to push Celtic as much as we can.”

No mention of any of the rest of the SPL, and no desire to only be second best. Without being too jingoistic and gung ho, while keeping our feet on the ground, this is the sort of mentality we need in the side.

Rather than new signings aspiring to catch Aberdeen, we want our players to have the ambition our fans do – it may well be a long road to get back to competing with Celtic, but if a brand new signing who essentially was raised on the green half of Edinburgh can understand what the fans want, it bodes well.

Welcome to Ibrox Jason WATP

  1. I thought he was raised a Hearts fan, who was released by them and then signed by Hibs?

His dad certainly seems extremely proud of his son, his comments hint at an allegiance for our side of the field.

Whatever, glad to have him and I like his confidence. As you say, we should be looking at the top of the league. 2nd is a given, it is first that matters

  2. I agree. But this boy will not lack confidence and that's the sort of attitude I like in a player. There will be some dissenters but this is, for me, the best signing we have made this season. On a separate point, the Killie boy (who I don't fancy anyway) is worth no more than the £350k we've offered. Please Rangers let this one go. He is very average!

  3. I remember when Jim Baxter brought Jason Cummings confidence with him to Ibrox in the 60's.

His confidence in the dressing room could soon rub off throughout the team – let's hope so.

Glad to have him at Rangers and see how many games Morelos & him win us with their goals.

  4. I just hate loan players we are never going buy them so why give them game time now two loans should be all a team should take no more or less, then that way the teams who loan them out would have to sell and at a lower price, but if this is all about second place then why do we need all the loan players in jan we could get second with the players we have and spent no extra money,me thinks we going for first place and the Scottish cup i do hope so.
