Former Man Utd defender undergoes medical at Auchenhowie

Rangers are on the verge of clinching their second winter signing after Declan John with the capture of Manchester United’s former defender Sean Goss.

The current QPR stopper, 22, would be a loan deal and is reported to be currently undergoing a medical at Auchenhowie.

This signature might spell the end of interest in Dundee’s Jack Hendry, but time will tell.

A former Exeter defender, Goss is a versatile player suited to both defence and midfield, and may be considered a utility player to give Graeme Murty more options – generally the youngster has not made too many appearances for QPR though and will be looking to this switch to get his career going.

Overall the defensive-minded player is left sided, and with Rangers having a lot of strength over on that side of the park now, this is yet another name to provide supplements.

Rangers are evidently not hanging around and the names and signings should start flowing thick and fast from here on in.

  1. Why another left-sided defensive player? Already we have Wallace, Halliday, Beerman and John who will provide more than adequate cover. Any further cover, should that not be for young development squad players? Right sided enhancements yes I can see that – especially to give Tavenier the opportunity to play in his favoured (and best position) right wing back. We only have one cover for right back and we all know he is (likable lad though be may be), well short of Rangers class. This trend (of buying players for positions already well covered while not addressing obvious gaps – such as the need for two strikers; remember is a winger not an out and out number 9), really frustrates and confuses supporters. Next, we will no doubt go out and buy another goalie – when we already have at least three good enough for the first team. Please……. Rangers less of this left-field approach and go for the obvious areas we need strengthening in. Another, unrelated point, why the hell are we not tying down Danny Wilson for another 2 years at least? He has shown (in the top league) that given a run in the team he is a standout!

    • He can play CH also Davie.
Possibly left hand side of a back 3,
That would suit U even better pal!

    • Ok, fair point but we would still be better addressing the right side of the park – where we are foe-fully short. Not to mention out and out strikers. Imagine, Tavenier and Morelos get injured? No, it doesn't bear thinking about….

    • I mate we will get a nr 10 and a CF.
Jack can also play RB as he did for Scotland.
For me we need a solid RB and movie Tavie forward.
Looks like we have John Goss & Murphy and it's only the 3rd.
Windass Pena Herrera Cordoso could all possibly go the other way.
I'm be happy if it keeps going the way it is.
But I think we need another window.
In saying that would love to start biting into there lead!?

  2. We are going nowhere with moves like this.

Says we have no money and no clue.

How is going after players who can't cut it at mid to lower English championship level ever going to help close the gap.

Desperate stuff. For a start we already have plenty of defenders. Our main problem is lack of quality and lack of creativity. This addresses neither.

  3. I’ve just read a report that he’s actually a box to box midfielder i.e something we need in the middle. Holt has been doing well but doesn’t seem to be able to break down defenders. THis guy still seems to be raited down south and Man Utd have a buy back clause for him. Kind of reminds me of te Davis situation when he signed. We took him for 6months and signed him in the summer. Better than wasting cash of a maybe player

    • Davis was a first pick for Fulham, week in week out. Sean Goss, and I've absolutely nothing against the guy, doesn't even get into the match squad for QPR; never mind the starting 11.

    • Davis had already proved himself as a quality player with Fulham and villa.

This guy has failed to get a game with a QPR booed off the park nearly every week.

This guy is a defender who has played as holding mid. Not the creativity or quality team is screaming out for.

    • Regular for Fulham. That’s pushing it a bit. He signed in the summer and was loaned to us in the January. I’m sure this is the same all over again

    • Davis was a young international who had earned a big money move to Fulham under his former N Ireland manager, who was sacked a few months later. New manager didn't rate Davis, we loan him then pay big money as well.

      Vs

Few unsuccessful lower league loans, then a move for a small fee to a struggling club and making no impact at all. Plus QPR have made it clear we have no option to buy.

      Your right. Like history repeating.

    • Not much difference with our Rangers as they get booed aff the pitch too eh… QPR you reckon are a shit team but they’re refusing to sell him on after his loan spell – that means they rate him ffs…. Before passing judgement wait until he’s at least played a full 2-3 full games for us… Ohh wait I forgot he’s pure pish eh 😂😂

  4. The boy hasn’t kicked a baw for Rangers and here’s the Championship Manager brigade out in force… Try giving the lad a chance ffs!

    • Agree with you bawbag. We have some complaining about fans giving poor players that we have already seen playing, a hard time. Those same critics are now moaning about a player who they have never seen in a rangers jersey?!! Quite confused at that!

    • Jimbo.
Stop being daft it's already been decided the boys pish by the keyboard Bears.
Don't be confused it's the way it is he's pish.
Don't question it he's pish everyone's seen how pish he is.
      Got it Jimbo!????

    • Jimbo a lot of quality pros and ex pros think highly of this lad. QPR aren’t even giving the option to buy him which tells you something… As for moaning I’m a master just ask the wife lol.. That said I’m amateur compared to some on here 😃

  5. Sean Goss?
A Guy who doesnt get a game for QPR?

    …this is our signing policy
    Seriously???

…we aint ever gonna catch celtic with signings like this

  6. Lets be honest, not a single person on this forum had ever heard of this guy before this morning; so we have no idea if he will be good, bad or indifferent. But he's a Rangers player now, so he deserves our support and the opportunity to show what he can do. All we can ask is that he give's it everything he's got on the field. Maybe a change of environment and a fresh start will allow him to start realising the potential that got him to Man U. If it doesn't work out we ship him back to QPR, no harm done…

    • Ran.
Don't U start talking sense now!
Everyone's already knows he's pure pish same as Declan John was!!

  7. Robbie, settle down I’m with you and your passion. We have a month to go. Let’s see what comes and then we can let loose if it is not to our liking. Too early for getting upset. Pena gone I hope, along with Herrera and Dalcio.Balanced on the biggest wave we move towards an early grave. Relax man! We will get there soon.
